I certainly don't care one way or another, folks have been doing that sort of thing since the scoring system was made.  HTC certainly isn't going to make a fuss about it, $30 is better than $15 by anyone's accounting.

When you get right down to it, rank in the game doesn't count for anything.

This thread is reminding me of that early sequence in Monty Python's Holy Grail....

As in, it's "not dead" even though many sincerely wish it were!! And, we're all hoping someone will be so good as to give it a good crack on the head so we can dump it on the cart with the rest of the stanky material. (Cause otherwise, it may still be here come "next thursday" when the cart makes its next rounds)

It's this type of behavior that makes the ranking laughable, and I think that's why people detest this sort of gaming the game. Could be completely wrong, but I can't imagine why else people who themselves don't bother trying to pad their ranks would have any sort of interest in, or dislike of, this kind of thing.

This is one of few games where there's not some overall comparison or scoring (meaningful, anyway), and I suspect many would like to have such a system. Every time someone goes out of their way to influence the rankings, by hook or by crook, it always receives a fair amount of attention, much of which is negative.

I wonder how much of this would continue if HT quit putting them at the top of their website. I never pay much attention to the website itself anymore (I pretty much only go there if there's an announcement on the forum), but were the dueling ladder winners ever rewarded? Top squadrons? Most helpful trainers? Skinners? The guys who created soundpacks? Filmmakers? Special Events results? People with the most accounts?

Overall I think the scoring system hurts overall game play. Too many tards that worry more about their score vs the actual fight. Personally I wish they would just do away with it, it's created too many sissys in the air.

Try making one of the LW arenas a non scoring arena.

See how many guys show up there.

If the majority tends to fly there, maybe something will change.

But I sincerely doubt that many guys would show up there.

Keeping an eye on your score isn't a bad thing.

But gaming the scoring system or playing timidly because of it, kind of defeats the whole purpose of scoring.

This is like it was when I use to play Halo 2 on xbox live.  Scores ultimately corrupt the mass majority of people, and also cause them to not have as good of a time as they could have had.

I say still have scores, but make them only visible to the person they belong to.  I know that without scores, I would have a much better time.  I try not to be a score potato, but it just gets the better of me sometimes, and I don't enjoy myself as much as I would because I end up worrying about my k/d.  Stupid I know, but I can't help it.

I miss your old Avatar. Reminded me of the continuation of life and a time when music was good. Is there any way that you could put the Dark Side of the Moon record spinning in your new avatar.
