Any reason the below listed Machine will NOT run AH well??  Please NO comments on price..I don't have time to "roll my own".  Thanks in advance for all/any Pro's con's. :)

Looks more than adequate to me. The anti Vista crowd will tell you to go with XP instead but I think it will probably work well for you.

Will work just fine....

Vista is a resource hog but with 4G of ram and a 6600 you'll do fine.

I'm assuming the 8600 is full retail and not an OEM thats porked since its got the GT tag not an SE or similiar....

An OEM card can have modifications to make it cheaper. This isnt always the case but often it will have vewer pipes or less/slower memory etc then the "retail" card. Since your not IDing the system builder I dont have a clue. Regardless you shouldnt have any problems with AH since its primarily a CPU/Mem driven app. you've got plenty of both and the VC will be more then good enough...but anytime you buy OEM it doesnt hurt to see if you can find out the actual VC specs and compare them to a well regarded retail version of same....

Everything looks good to me except....

 * – Norton Internet Security(TM) 2007 - 15 Months

Norton is a resource hog and difficult to get out of your system. Had this been a lower grade system, that may have caused problems. You have plenty of CPU and RAM so you shouldn't have any issues other than the normal Vista/Dual Core problems that are explained in the above stickys.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions.  While I really do NOT want Vista..the two major contenders for my business do not offer XP in a system that I like...Dell has their "gaming machines (XPS Models) that are butt ugly, and require a small crane to lift. :)

I'm starting to seriously consider a IMac...might be more $, and a tad difficult to get AH to run on it, but i think there was someone on the "boards" that has done it.

Guess I'll have to do more research. :(

It is possible to run on iMac intel chip set. Apple pulled the Beta version of Boot Camp but has included the program in the Leopard version of OSX that released in the last few weeks. I use 100% Apple products (iMac 24", 2 MacBook Pro's, Mac Mini, iPhone) with exception to my gaming rig. I will be upgrading my iMac 24" to Leopard in the next month and installing XP on the partition. I'll let you know how it works. Do not, I repeat, Do NOT use a Windows emulator on a Mac and try doing anything other than opening the start menu. It wont work.

I'll keep ya posted on my progress.

I'd certainly appreciate that..just ordered an IMac 24" 2.8 ghz 4 megs and whatever else comes with. :)  
Been with MicroSoft since `89.  Hate to jump ship, but I really see no future in Vista, and I'm damn sure I'm not going to mess with Linux again..at least not in the foreseeable future:)

MAchine will be here in a week or so..and then the fun begins. :)
