These are of course similar terrorists(they can't be the same ones for obvious reasons) to the ones who in the middle of a night, 200 Ft. from a Bradley OP on idle, start digging a hole in the middle of a road to plant an IED, and after two are killed by the coax of the Bradley sitting 200 Ft. away idling its engine, a third resumes the work, to be shot 10 seconds after the Bradley radio's higher for permission to engage...
Yeah... Okay...

Bait is an okay idea, but I would discontinue it as a commander simply because optimistically you'll only be killing the dumb terrorists instead of the slightly dumb ones.

Years ago during the Northern Ireland troubles. Someone found weapons hidden in an old shed on their land. They dutifully reported it to the police. Later they were told to stay away from the shed and say nothing about it.

Meanwhile the British army staked out the shed, waiting for a terrorist to turn up. Eventually someone arrived. They opened fire. Their story was that the individual picked up a rifle, pointed it at them and refused to surrender.

In fact it turned out to be the teenage son of the person who found the guns in the first place. He had gone over to see if they guns were still there, out of teenage curiousity. The army shot him assuming he was an IRA man. The used the same method to kill a couple of unarmed IRA men previously.

But this time they killed an innocent boy.

You can easily envisage similar situations in Iraq.

That also applies to FBI snipers if I recall correctly.

I rank this type of behavior along with many of the stings run by law enforcement to get the "numbers", a lazy sloths way to get the job done.

I did see one tv show where marine snipers hid in a cammo covered hole in the ground and waited for someone to start digging on the side of the road to plant a device.. they shot em.

I am fine with that... I couldn't see any innocent reason to bury an explosive device on the side of the road.

on the one hand i think its ingenious. But, as yeager pointed out what if some poor bloke is just trying to grab stuff to sell for money to feed his family?

I've had friends die over there, others who havent have told me things that makes this type of action understandable.

A very good friend of mine told me that shortly after getting to iraq his patrol was assaulted by insurgents, he personally came under direct fire (ill spare the full details) but he ended up squaring off with his attacker and was first to fire a clean shot killing the insurgent. Turn out it was a 15 or 16 yr old kid.
I asked him if that screwed with him, his answer was nope the lil pissant oscar%@$%^$#@!##$ had just blown off some innocent ladies head!
