Mic problems with my new video card.
« on: November 08, 2007, 02:40:54 PM »
Hello all,

I just bought a new Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE. After adjusting a few settings sound works fine and so is recording. The issue is that the sound card appears to be continuously recording noises picked up by my microphone and playing them back to me in my speakers. So if I'm talking to someone else I'm interrupted immediately by myself on playback.

I've already attempted muting the Line-In feature on the Surround mixer provided with the installer disk. It did nothing, the playback continues. I attempted muting the Line-In feature in my Sound and Multimedia settings from the Control Panel. That mutes my microphone AND the Line-In Feature. I figure this is because the Line-In and the Microphone slot are the same ones.

So, my question is if anyone knows how to stop my new sound card from continuously recording out of the mic and playing it back?

EDIT: Tried deleting the post, won't let me. Anyhow I managed to resolve the issue when I released a big blast of air into the mic while I had the line-in muted. It played back on the program I was using however real faint. So I adjusted the mic volume and joila. Now my mic works without it playing back.

However I do have another question. Is there a way to tweak the microphone settings so that it does not detect as much background noise? It seemed I was quieter than my mother whispering in the next room.
