How about something that really matters.. The truly evil right wing nut jobs are trying to take away nudie books from our soldiers.

WASHINGTON -- Dozens of anti-pornography groups asked the U.S. Congress to force the Pentagon to keep sexually related material from being sold in military stores.

Pornographic material was banned from being sold in military establishments nearly 10 years ago, but Christian group American Family Association claimed that adult fare, including Penthouse and Playboy material, is still being sold in the stores, USA Today reported Monday.

The Pentagon deemed those materials aren't explicit enough to pull from its stores.

"They're saying 'we're not selling stuff that's sexually explicit' -- and we say it's pornography," Donald Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, told USA Today.

A letter-writing campaign launched Friday aimed to convince Congress to "get the Pentagon to obey the law," he added.

The Military Honor and Decency Act of 1996 is supposed to bar "sexually explicit material" from being sold in stores on military bases, the newspaper said. It defines porn as "the dominant theme of which depicts or describes nudity" or sexual activities "in a lascivious way."

Banning grunts' access to pr0n is unconstitutional. Another reason to support Ron Paul.

Whoops, someone missed the point.

The argument goes... stuff sold at the PX or BX is discounted over what you would have to pay at Wal-Mart.  That discount is tax-payer funded.  The group doesn't feel their tax dollars should be used to subsidize porn.

This is actually a very old discussion, I havn't heard anything about it in about 5 years or so.

From my experience I would have to disagree with that statement.  I've shopped at Bx's and Px's,  Wal-Mart is cheaper, Target is Cheaper, Fry's is cheaper... only thing you save on is you dont have to pay a sales tax... from my experience BX's were only good if there wasnt anyplace else to go...

I have often wondered if the sexual revolution of the 1960s was a good thing or a bad thing, at least regarding the surge in sexual exploitation and predation of minors?  I have further wondered if the internet and its zero down - no questions asked access to pornography has furthered the cause of western freedom or hindered it?

My own opinion is that sex is better off left behind closed doors with consenting adults, not on the internet or on grocery store magazine racks.

Thats just my opinion and I vote with it.

you couldn't be more wrong.

THe difference is that you don't pay any taxes on stuff sold on base (except for Gasoline)

Stuff is actually cheaper at wal-mart beleive it or not.

AAFES and MCCS are actually private coorporations with a contract to run the base services.  They make a regulated profit and have a HUGE amount of overhead to pay for.  (somoene's gotta employ retired officers with no real job skills) It's not like it used to be.  AAFES is only supposed to be cheaper than their local competators by 10%.  If you are on a remote base like Edwards AFB where the nearest walleyworld is 50 miles away you have no competators.

Anyone who thinks widespread sexual deviance (and that includes exploitation and pedophilia) doesn't date to any earlier than the 1960s needs to be beat mercilessly with a history book. :p

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Agreed.  Any of the civilian discount merchants charge tax, and still beat their prices out.  And furthermore, if AAFES know they're the only place around (such as in Iraq), their prices are probably close to double/triple of what they normally would be.

"... serving the best customers in the world... blah blah, blah" *rolling my eyes* whatever.  They've perhaps convinced themselves that they're providing the best service to our service members.  Just ain't the case.

They ain't selling Debbie Does Dallas for crying out loud.

Yeah next thing you know our soldiers in Iraq won't be able to get beer or Spam either.

I think banning Playboy from military stores is BS, but isn't tolerating a differing POV s'posed to be a lefty strength?

Is Playboy still printed?  I thought it was all on line now.

Yea it's still printed.

As far as tolerating another POV. I'm all for it as long as their POV isn't trying to force it on others.
