Why I own 3 Dell computers
« on: November 10, 2007, 09:13:53 AM »
I've been using Dell since 2002.  Never had any issues with their laptops or desktops until last Tuesday.  It was apparent (after reinstallation of graphics drivers) that my graphics card went south. This laptop was about 11 months old.  I got online with a live Dell rep and explained that I used their knowledge base info, re-installed the drivers..then sent him the above picture.  He said they'd send out a new graphics card (Gefore GO 7900 GS) immediately. (They also asked if I would like them to install it, or if I was going to do it myself, I told him the latter as long as it did not affect the warranty) That was late afternoon on Tuesday.

On Wednesday at noon the card arrived. I installed it and was back in biz within 18 hours after speaking with Dell customer service.

Kudos to Dell!

I have customers with a lot of Dell computers. Seems that some batches are very reliable while others aren't. Dell is very good at identifying and replacing those components that aren't though.

I hate calling their 1st tier tech support though (like everyone else's). Nothing like talking to someone you can barely understand who is following the procedures in a manual and get's lost if the problem is outside the dcoumentation. You got lucky Rip.

I am to the point that i would rather buy a computer then build my own.
Prices at dell are less then i can buy most items and the quality seems to be up there now a days.  Just a lot less hassle with Bios raid and other things.

I'll second the OP, I've had pretty darn good Dell support.  Also, they occasionally have packages that are hard to beat when building it yourself.

Dell & Apple are the two companies that really seem to spend time on good support and well engineered hardware.

Can you build your own laptop? Just curious.

Our employer gives us 16% off Dell laptops and desktops.

This was online with a live rep, I don't ever deal with Dell on the phone, I know better. ;)

I once called a tech support line that was in India (AT&T I think), and could NOT understand the person I was talking to.

As it turns out I had a friend sitting there who was from India, and when I put them on the phone to talk to the rep in their native tongue, they told my friend  they were ONLY allowed to speak English.

Thought that was pretty stupid.

Dell sent me a letter earlier this year telling me that my model of laptop had a defect in the screen and mine could be affected. Sure enough a month later my laptop developed this problem, called dell and they said they would fix it free of charge even though my warranty had run out. Next day DHL was at my house (shipping was paid by Dell) to pick up the computer and about 3 days later it was back to me. They even updated all the drivers and cleaned out my keyboard while they were at it. :D I have nothing but Kudos for dell computers.
