We fly BFM against the birds around Sheppard AFB all the time. Something about this region (probably the river and all the agro) attracts not only the usual turkey vultchers, but also thousands of little blackbirds and even the occasional swarm of seagulls.
We get a couple dozen birdstrikes every year. Luckily we haven't lost any planes to birdstrikes recently but we just fly too many sorties to avoid them all. 500 ft and 210 kts for T-37s, 410 kts (I think) for T-38s, doesn't give you much time to react. It's slightly amusing on occasion to see a formation of 2 tweets on initial break away from each other and start maneuvering wildly as they avoid a dozen buzzards circling around 3 mile initial 1000 ft up. They have an uncanny ability to figure out exactly where we fly the most, and circle there.
Oh yea, I've also seen more geese in the last 7 months here than I saw in my entire last assignment here. It's been a wet year and certain populations are recovering after being nearly wiped out, but with geese if you hit one then chances are you're going to hit a half dozen all at once because of their formations and the altitudes they fly.
