Had a midair with a Seagull today. If the poor guy were 2 feet to the left of where he hit I would probably be picking the windshield from my forehead.

Here's a few links to other guys who had some similar encounters. It could've been a lot worse. The photos were from Buzzards.

Oh man, wasnt that the same cowling you complimented the wife on cleaning?

I dinged a seagull in 1989, it hit me from below on landing, hitting the prop and made for a helluva mess under the plane.  As I was just over the I-95 when this happened, I've forever wondered if someone got a windshield full of purree'd seagull.

Kinda reminds me of a story my father told me once. He was a flight engineer on the C-5 Galaxy when he was in the Air Force.

Anyway he said they were on final to Dover AFB back in 85-86 time frame and took a goose right in the wind screen. Dad said he looked forward just in time to see it hit. The co-pilot who was a rookie turned on the wipers before anyone else could tell him not to and smeared blood and guts all over the window. He said they flew a missed aproach, went around and made an intsrument landing. Evidently the pilot asked the fire dept not to hose the plane down so the co-pilot could go out there and clean it.

just out of curiosity, I can't imagine the repair cost being too cheap, does your airplane insurance cover something like that.  Much like an auto insurance covering you for hitting a deer?

For the photos with the smashed cowling and wing - insurance would pick that up. Also depends on your deducatible. The strike I had in the video was relatively minor, so I need some touchup paint and maybe a wet sander. The other guys, the cowling would be north of $4000. The wing is a different matter. That guy was down for months while Cirrus had to engineer a fix.
