Vista issues
« on: November 13, 2007, 04:59:51 PM »
I'm having a few troubles with this game and Vista. My drivers are all the latest thing that's been released.

I'm running"
Q6600 CPU
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DQ6  mobo (using the on board sound)
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB

First issue is my video card drivers "stop responding" . What happens is the screen goes black for about 10-15 seconds then refreshes back to the game. I get a little "!" sign in my task bar telling me the drivers stopped responding.

Second issue is with in game Vox. My vox is always very low and seems to fade in and out when I talk. I always have people telling me they can't hear me.

I'm assuming these are windows Vista issues, but I'm wondering if anyone has a fix for any of it. I've adjusted my mic input levels in both Vista and in game but nothing helps.

The Video card issues can really hurt the game play. It's pretty much end of flight if I'm in a fight close to ground or much worse if I'm competing in one of the racing events.

I don't know if you already have this but Nvidia has V163.75 Forceware drivers, dated 11/7/07 posted. I suspected some issues with my 8800 setup with the Crysis demo and installed the new drivers. Issues seem to have cleared up both in Vista and XP for me. Tried out AH for a little while and everything seemed okay but I didn't exactly do any exhaustive testing. FWIW. Don't know what to say about your mic issues. I use a Logitech usb headset without problems.

Yea, I actually just updated them two days ago and the black outs seem to happen more often now.

Before it just seemed to happen maybe once or twice a week, but now it happens pretty much everytime I play the game. Soon as it does it once, it won't do it again untill I log out and back in again.

NEWEST ISN'T ALWAYS BEST !!

Alot of people have rolled bad the drivers on the 8800 because the newest sets are so buggy. Do a search on the boards to find which drivers some are using.

How many processes do you have running?  You mic issue may be your computer cutting out the soundboard as it needs more power/memory for other things (sound is a low priority)

Use the search button, you'll find tons of helpfull tips on how to tweak your system. Check the "Sticky's" Skuzzy has at the top of the technical support thread, a lot of tip for vista users there.

Na this is a pretty much  top end PC that I build a few months back. It has more than enough system resources and power to do what ever.

On the vid drivers, I was still having black out issue prior to my driver upgrade. It's just since I updated them it's gotten worse. So the problem existed but wasn't as bad.

I'm likely just going to go back to XP because I never had any issue with XP. Just figured I'd ask to see if they might be a known problems.

You can have a "top end" computer, but if you bought it from one of the  big dogs, like Dell, it is most likely loaded with a bunch of bloat ware. A flight sim game is very demanding due to all the math used for positioning in a 3D world.

Your top end computer might not have trouble with other games, and only hicups on some stuff in AH2, but if you knocked down the number of processes you have running you may be fine.

Just hit control, alt, delete and click the processes tab at the top. Check the lower left corner for the number of processes running. When I trim miine down I get it to 15 or so. I have a 3.4 CPU (single, not Duo) 3 gigs of ram, and a 256 AGP graphics card. My frame rate doesn't go below 60, and I have everything turned up and running 512 textures.

Mine isn't a top end computer, and is over a year old, but I keep it lean and mean!  :D

I built it myself and the computer doesn't have too many resources running. I've built a lot of PCs and done PC tech work in the past, so I'm pretty good at figuring out that kinda stuff.

The issues seem to be related to vista and the  current hardware drivers.  I've also had other driver related issues with other games which worked fine when I used XP pro, the common link seems to be Vista.

I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a common issues that was being worked on. I'm just going to end up tossing Vista and going back the XP as it worked fine.
