Is that straight from the camera or do you have to doctor it up a little? Mine never turn out that good

straight from the camera and then adjusted using all available information in the file.  no manipulation of pixels.

these are High Dynamic Range photos; images made from a composite of bracketed exposures.

for these i used 5 exposures each.

that said, most photos can be improved with a few standard adjustments that are to digital what filters and exposures might do in a darkroom.

i am using photoshop (but gimp can do this too) and canon A460...picked it up for 128$ at walmart.

I have a Canon S3 1S, but I am not at all familair with photoshop. I can cut and paste pretty good though :)

Great atmosphere.  I like them both but the first one is my favorite.

I would tweak the horizon on the first just a hair CCW before I printed it though.  It's something I can't help but notice now that I've started reading on Photocamel.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

i noticed that too...i was using the back waterline as the centering agent, but it does seem to lean a bit right.  i noticed it too...too late for the contest.
