Hold the Press!
« on: November 18, 2007, 10:39:30 AM »
Guys, I found this so amusing that I just had to make a statement on behalf of the squad.

It must be some kind of miracle, that a small squad that has flown together for right at ten years, can in just a few weeks after coming to AH, be labeled as Squeakers, Grievers and braggarts.  So I’d like to shed just a little bit of light on who we actually are.

We are mostly veterans, some of us disabled veterans who served in more than one war.  We even have a Purple Heart recipient in our squad; just don't ask where he was hit.  Our average age is around 50 or so years old, we all have careers, wives, kids and some of us Grand kids.  We enjoy getting together and flying missions a couple of times a week, just like we have for almost a decade.  The only thing we brag about is how much fun we have on our squad night, weather we win or we lose; we have figured out that not everyone can be the winner, so we try hard to have fun just being a part of it all.

As for all the rumor mill talk about our dark Warbirds history; that's pretty much all it is, rumors.  We flew there for a very long time and had many friends as well as enemies when we left.  But we will always cherish the many fond memories we have of that sim; but all things come to an end.  The below par customer service combined with the very limited development of that sim, we all decided to switch sims and give this a try.  Now with all our dark secrets out in the open, maybe the Aces in the AvA beauty shop will stop all the rumors and trash talk.

Either way, we are pretty thick skinned and will continue to conduct sorties in the AvA arena.  Hopefully in time we will be accepted for who we are and considered a part of the community; see y'all on Monday Night.

Lutrel, I was up in the AvA this past Thursday (for the first time in months) and I didn't see you folks do anything that could remotely be seen as griefing. As a matter of fact, the missions you ran added to the fun by expanding what has become the norm in the AvA - mind-numbing repetitive fights between the two closest fields to the exclusion of all else. Don't let the ADHD sufferers get you down. :aok.

Avengers - cyas on Thursday.

Cheers,

I have flown against and around the Avengers squad here and in Warbirds and don't really care if they run missions.  I am one of the few that would like to see the AvA evolve into an Axis vs Allies arena as opposed to taking the only arena with a split plane set and use as a DA.

So, to running missions, I have no problem with that at all.

That being said Lutrel, I will say this.  Earlier last week you and a few of your guys were completely out of control in the buffer.  You made 2 short comments that I didn't had trouble with.  That, however soon turned into an out of control dialogue between the Avengers and others.  This eventually spiraled down into personal attacks on others Veteran status.

As squad CO, and someone who proclaims both his own and his squads military service far and wide across the boards, you should have put the hammer down on that kind of BS and taken the high road.

As a 22 year retired Navy Chief, I found it completely irresponsible and disheartening.

Cajun, I recall the event you speak of, and yes, a couple of my guys went over board, but only after they had been called out in a very unprofessional manner. I am not condoning the behavior of the guys and I did manage to reign them back in after a few minutes of childish banter between them and some of the others in the arena. I in fact told my guys if they can't handle the trash talk we encountered to detune channel 200; hopefully that will be the last time they get sucked into a stink.

by all means, continue.  you guys are a wonderful addition to the arena.  I would once again ask you guys to approach any of the excellent trainers in the training staff to help you.  you really need to get that ability up somewhere close to the propoganda, it just ain't fun killing you when you all die so easily.

if you are too embarassed to ask for help PM me and I will pass on what little I know.

all the best

A new player would read Storch's recent posts and say, "gosh, what a nice and helpfull guy" whereas anybody that's been reading the bbs for any length of time would react as Dan did.

A kinder, gentler Storch maybe?

hey lutrel,

one of the main points about this game is that in general talking sense or using true or fictitious diplomacy is frowned on :)

banter with some class is almost expected.

but, my point to posting is, dont you guys worry about what anyone thinks of you. you say you have alot of fun well keep it up and dont let this community disjoint your squad's playtime. do what ever you want and dont answer to anyone, and you'll do fine. try and stay away from this kind of thread unless you want to start never ending battles of text.

above all the best way for your boys to fit in would be to avoid publicity and speak with your guns and if someone doesnt like the way you killed them...kill them again and see if they get twice as mad..

S! good hunting.

I think Storch sees the Avengers as representing the "needed change" that so many have asked for -- larger numbers, squad based tactics, base captures, etc.

He is laughing about the fact that so many of those same people are now saying the Avengers have been disruptive to the status quo.  Every time he says something nice to them, he is sticking his finger in the eye of those who wanted that kind of game play in the arena.

I think he is partially correct.  The whining is horrible.  I said early on that they shouldn't let you guys pee in their cornflakes, but many of you are acting like they peed in yours.

Where I think storch is wrong is that it is the attitude, not the mechanics, that are at fault in this case.  The Avengers have resisted all attempts to bring them into the fold.  At the very least, they have chosen to be abrasive rather than try to fit in based on what I have observed here on the boards.  IMO this does not represent the game play or "mechanics" aspect even though I am sure there are those of you who think it goes hand-in-hand.

Labeling them "griefers" as Lute did was unwarranted and over the top.  If they were griefers, they would be bringing their missions to where the furball already was and tried to shut it down.  I have not seen any evidence they are intentionally trying to reset and therefore pork the arena either.  In short, there is nothing they are doing that can adversely affect anyone if the others simply decide to ignore them.

At the same time, they have slapped just about every helping hand that has been offerred to them.  They've returned suggestions with a an in-your-face, "it's our $15", "we'll play our way whether you like it or not" attitude that has not endeared them to anyone except those (like storch) who see trash talking as sport in and of itself.

While annoying, it is not "griefing," it is not symbolic of a certain "game style," and it certainly will not bring down the AvA and end life as we know it.

To Lutrel, please take notice of how your attitude is perceived.  The "squeaker" label is applied to anyone, regardless of age or background, who comes into AH thinking they already know it all, ignore advice, and slap at helping hands that are offerred.  Generally those that display this attitude are 10-14 year olds who make your ears bleed when they speak, hence the term.  But make no mistake, the label represents  the attitude.  And so far, by and large you have earned it.

actually, their "target" was the Axis field everybody was using.  The only reason it didn't get "disrupted" was we shot 'em all down.

The tone of their response aside, what do they need help with?  If their goal in the game is to have a couple of fun nights a week with the guys flying online, it seems to me they are doing okay.

heh, no corky these guys have been upfront about how they like to play.  I recall not too long ago it seems when JG3 was universally reviled for similar play, utlizing the same concepts and twice a week.  ultimately the squad was driven from the arena at great loss to the arena itself.  twodogs has never ventured back into the AvA and a good group of players eventually broke up.

there was nothing wrong with the way JG3 chose to play and there is nothing wrong with what the avengers do.

the minute the avengers up darbar informs you something is up and each individual player may choose to intercept or not.  it comes down to what the arena regulars want to do with this challenge.  as for me I will up in opposition when they are allied and will up in support when they are axis.

the avengers have stated that the next tour will be an axis tour when that occurs they count on me to provide the very best fighter cover that I'm able to provide and I hope my fellow squadmates will join me.  if this occurs then the combined efforts of these two squads will net successful raids and an opportunity for those on the allied team to participate in an immersive hour or two of spontaneous WWII type cartoon fun.  a place where the sound of an allison, merlin or pratt & whitney engine means I need to manuever and the sound of diamler, jumo or BMW means I good.

I'm hopeful that your squad might show and provide opposition and that perhaps other players will consider bringing their allied squadrons into the fray to stop those evil avengers now joined with JG54 from terrorizing the maps.

but it's your choice, the glove has been thrown down.
