Yak at an airshow does what looks to be impossible - far exceeds sane angle of attack yet somehow avoids augering....  What do you guys think ?  Is this even possible ?  What do you real-life pilots out there think ?

Fink that's a normal reaction of a deer to a bow shot.  I've had more than one duck an arrow, in fact had two get out of the way just last week.  

Then I commited a cardinal sin and shot (what I didn't know to be) a split arrow at hands down the biggest buck I'd ever had the privilege of seeing.  30 yards, the arrow came off pitching up and down wildly landing about 5 yards in front of the deer (which translates into about 8-10 feet LOW from my treestand) which walked away up the hill laughing at me.

I took a look at the arrow and it had a fracture down the shaft.  I now actually inspect the arrow before using it...

and I bought some new arrows.

Its an optical illusion, that airfield has an elevation change that you cannot see from the angle it is being filmed, there is a valley beyond the viewing stands. The airfield is in Bealeton, Virginia...

hehe rgr that golfer, i have never been able to hunt deer in the UK.

split arrows? man that must suck when you only get one shot on the target.

i thought the clip sounded like a crossbow, although i'm no expert so i concede that point right off. thanks for the post, i never knew deer had reactions that good.

It's hard to tell with the audio recording though I think it sounds more like a conventional compound bow rather than a crossbow.  Crossbows (I have one) have all made a "twang" which was absent.  That bow sounded very noisy so it makes me think it's most likely a lower end compound bow without a lot of "goodies" on it to help keep quiet.

String Leeches, quality cams and limbs all go a long way into keeping bows quiet.  You can hardly hear mine beyond a few feet and if you didn't expect it you might think to yourself "What was that" for the split second before impact.

That still doesn't stop deer from ducking an arrow.  They're amazing animals and the more time I've spent in the woods (I've been deer hunting since I was 7, bagged my first one at 8) the more respect they earn.  They'll jump an 8 foot fence like it's not even there.  They'll leap over a 30+ foot drop and keep right on running.  They'll also run over a hundred yards without a heart and/or lungs.  Amazing (and delicious) creatures!  I know that they're not given enough respect even by those who hunt them.  I'll lose respect for anyone who refers to them as "little [bastages]" in the context of a hunt.  When they're eating your flowers, apples or killing your trees by rubbing their antlers on them it's another story...then they ARE little bastards

yes it was noisey which made me think crossbow, obviously youre right about a compund setup being noisey. i make my own longbows, hardly profesionaly, but enough to kill for certain, and they are the essance of stealth when fired. i havnt fired a compound bow for years.
