Teach firearms safety to the youngest of your family. Even with air rifles and BB guns...

5 Year old girl killed by Pellet Gun.

Very sad.

Story says pellet then BB gun. Both can be very deadly. The parents seemed to be unknowlegeable about guns. At 6 years old he should have had supervision and his sister would probably be alive today.

Poor kids and parents.

I feel almost worse for the boy. He's going to grow up with a HUGE issue to deal with. One that will only get worse as his awareness grows.

I knew a family whose eight year old shot his five year old brother in the head with a .22 and turned him into a vegetable. That sucked too.

Thanks for sharing it, albeit sad as it is. I shared it with my kids, who own both pellet guns and BB guns, to serve as a reminder...

Too bad their parents didn't teach them about pellet guns. Hell me and my brother hunted with them before we got real guns. Very sad story.

Sad to hear, BUT... if you have guns in the home regardless of the type i.e. anything that fires a projectil can be deadly. and must be treated with respect... where were the parents?

some pellet guns are pretty powerful.. maybe 1200 fps. Not much energy but deadly just the same.

the boy was 6.. that is too young to have a weapon and be turned loose with it.

I did not get my first handgun until I was 9

I didnt want to read this yesterday, I dont like reading about bad things happening to kids...

but here's part of the problem too

you CAN hold some one responsible. The parents are the ones who were supposed to be responsible. Now there'll be this big crusade to save us from BB and pellet guns...

"Where were the parents?" isn't always the catch-all, fix-all solution. Almost all of the "where were the parents?" solutions actually require thoughtful and careful instruction in advance, mixed with understanding & obedience on the part of the kids (yes, even at 5 and 6) rather than "let's stand shoulder to shoulder with the kids all day long and hope to God that we can be within arms reach each time they look at anything dangerous." It's possible for even a parent 3 - 4 feet away to not be able to prevent all actions.

Prefer a crusade to save kids from parents? Those blaming the parents for this are asking for just that.
