 Recreational flying isn't really a common thing in South Korea.. and since we're still technically in a state of war with the North (ceasfire..), you can imagine how the authorities react to civilians flying around in their own planes.


 Also, I'm curious..... that "replica" wooden Spit does look like a highly accurate representation, but wouldn't there be any problems in the materials and internal structures not being the same as the real Spit, despite its shape? What happens if something looks exactly like a Spitfire, but doesn't weigh like a Spitfire? Aren't there safety issues?

Heckuva job but not particularly accurate really.  A Spit fanatic would spot the differences right away.  3 blade prop, early no cannon wing, late tropical filter that's not shaped right, paint job is off etc.

It's a replica designed by Marcel Jurca. The type designation is MJ-100 Spitfire. There is at least one besides this one flying and one on the way. There's also one MJ-80 Focke-Wulf flying in Germany with P&W-1830 1200hp radial.

This guy designed very nice replicas to 1/1 -scale. Pretty much the coolest replica WWII fighters around. There are no kits...it is a mammoth effort to get one flying by yourself!

I wish someone out there did build new "Classic" warbirds. It would be a dream to get a f4u-1d.

Last year I sondog and I got together with TeeeRex, Vader, maddog, and rendog in Salinas where Te and Vader live. We visited a friend of Vader who builds WWII aircraft. In the hanger at that time under construction were a P-51 and P-40. When I was there a few years ago they were working on another P-51 and a P-39. This fellow learned it all from his dad who also still builds WWII aircraft.

n/m I just counted the exhaust ports and realized it is a V-10. When I saw the valve covers and the general layout of the engine I thought it looked like a small block.

I saw another one that was using a big block 500hp Chevy V-8 and then saw this one so I jumped ahead of myself.

I'm think that the first Dora will have an Allison engine. The lengthening piece for reduction gear is made in USA IIRC.

One of the problems is the light weight of Allison compared to Jumo so the engine mounts had to made extra heavy to balance the a/c.
