ran into an issue a few days ago that caused me to be unable to access any of my folder or files...called dell support and they wanted to charge me 179 dollars to fix the problem.
decided to fix it my myself and eventually found that the file permissions had somehow been changed on some massive level...had to go deep in the administrator/safe mode to re-take ownership of them. finally found a button to push {take ownership of all files}and it suddenly started zipping through file names and ended up appearing to be being problem free again...but i didn't want to risk it since i don't know the cause and i elected to wipe it and start over.
spent the whole day today backing everything up and doing a full reformat/reinstall of windows, drivers and all of the programs that i use etc.
started at 2. just got finished putting it all back to the way i like it. (about 4am)
man that takes forever.
the good thing is that my computer is running like new again and i have replaced my resource hog of an antivirus with AVG on the advice of a friend...it's like night and day. light as hell by comparison.
another good thing is, i had a good reason to reorganize everything and i am using a slave drive to store all of my image files from now on.
next step. 750 gig external hard drive. gotta get one of those.
over that past 6 months i have taken about 80 gigs worth of photographs. gonna have to start learing to trash the ones that i will never use.
anywho...just thought i'd share my near death experience.
happy to be done with it.
back to work with me.
