Ahh...feelin' the good life now!
« on: November 23, 2007, 12:51:09 PM »
Now that Black Friday is over, I had went and bought a portable 120GB ext. hard drive for my laptop. I've been loading all my crap onto it. It feels good to be 'free'.

I only have a 80GB internal hard drive so it was hard to cycle through all the games that I play.

120 gig? Just how do you guys fill those things up? I've got a 20gig with about 18 freespace.

Then all you have is AH on it, because doesn't AH take up 2GB?

My AH folder is 1.79 GB.. only about 100MB of it in films, the most is in the cache folder.

"My Documents" take a lot of disk space, I have digicamera pics from 5 years ago, plus a whole lot of other important files in there. Good thing that I have backups (up to date each week) on an external drive.

Scratch that...I looked at that before I cleaned out my SS's.

Mine is currently 829MB.

How can you fit Windows XP with a game in 2 gigs? My less than half a year old Windows XP installation alone takes 2 gigs.

Besides, how old is your computer? I haven't seen 20 gig HD's for ages
I'm already worried that 160 gigs isn't enough for my laptop on a long run. There's 500 gb HD, that I bought in august, on my desktop computer and it has measly 100 gb left. Of course I copied most of the contents from my older computer to it, but that's only 160 gb tops, far less after I deleted the useless stuff like game installations for the older comp (got to reinstall the games to get those to work.. I hate it the most with new windows).

Of course it's easy to fill up a gig with a single photo session.

Having Windows Vista on the laptop isn't making the HD issue any easier. And of course the recovery partition takes another bunch.

I just bought each of my sons a 500 gig ext drive, Western Digital with esata.

Price surprised me, cheaper than I expected.

My G5 MAC in my Drum studio uses a 250GB internal which is normally 3/4 full with loops, efx and other noises while I track to a 2TB external. 1 3:30 minute song with minimal loops will take up about 2-4GB depending drum intricacy. iMac has 130GB internal 1/2 full of family pictures and music for iPods. Wife's MacBook Pro has 130GB internal which has barely 4GB used. She has no use for that much space. My MacBook Pro is the same but has about 1/2 the internal HDD full with Ableton's Live and a smaller version of my loop library. Gaming PeeCee has 30GB internal with AHII and COD2 on it. It has very little space left.

HDD's are fun.

Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

I stand corrected. I have a 40 Gig with 27.5 Gig freespace. I still have no idea how you fill those huge drives up unless you have a ton of movies.

Well, that and the pron.;)
