What might be a better name than Titanic?
« on: November 27, 2007, 01:27:31 PM »
Just thinking out loud.  There is little real connection between the unsinkable luxury liner Titanic and AH?  I mean lets face it.  Although Titanic means something grand, and large, majestic even......I think most people recognise Titanic as the ship, and thats the disconnect for me.

I would have thought calling this new limited use arena idea something like...."Operation Overload" might have been a more fitting name for the weekly event.  Maybe something sarcastic would have worked...."Tuesdays Max ClusterFlub"...

If HTC had asked ther community to help with the name, what would you have suggested?

yeager --

They could keep the name, but maybe it would help if they wrote it differently. For example, imagine this: Title in bold, mega font for all letters, EXCEPT the "anic" would be really really small and in light grey.

Now, would that have a different feel for ya?

Maybe it's a little too early to see the connection??

After all, there was a lot of excitement and anticipation of grand times to be had far into the future surrounding the ship too.  Bigger, better, more modern...  Everyone thought it was guaranteed to be "unsinkable" too, hehe.

Maybe the connection between the names will be more clear in the future!

I'm sure thats why HT called it that. He's sure this "one large arena" idea is going to sink and kill hundreds !!  :D

Well, I would guess it's a guarantee that hundreds (at a minimum) will die as a result.

Maybe another interesting similarity-

They say that with the water temperature as low as it was, people in the water had only about a max of 15 minutes to survive.  I wonder what the average survival time is in the MA?

15 minutes is probably a typical sortie.  Mine average around 19 minutes (yes, I keep track of this among other data) across all catagories.

OK BaldEagl- now you went and made me check, lol.  My average sortie length is 30 minutes.  (If I divide my total time by sorties.)  But if I only count the times I die (since we're looking at average lifespan) I divide 1747 minutes by 30 deaths, for a lifespan average of 58 minutes.

That might imply that my body type is extra insulated, and is better able to withstand the cold water??  Extra blubber??
