This subject might be taboo to discuss in the AH OT, and if it is, my apologies Skuzzy, but I can't help but see a cultural trend here. Perhaps its just my misinterpretation of the culture.

-Taylor's death.

-Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams killed in a drive-by shooting following an argument at a Denver nightclub on Jan. 1.

-University of Miami defensive lineman Bryan Pata shot to death in November 2006 several miles from Taylor's home in an unsolved killing.

Sean has had trouble with the law before.

I get the feeling that something from his past did come back - what that is, I have no clue.

When I hear football player + Florida + shooting/guns/drugs + criminal record, it just sounds like something that is bound to end bad.

Hopefully, the police will get to the bottom of this, tell the story of what happened and prosecute the person(s) responsible for this.

By 'cultural' you mean...??

As heard on the Jim Rome show today, "Your lifestyle dictates your deathstyle."

Heard that on a metallica song, too.

*edit*

Not surprising to me when rich & famous folks screw up & put themselves in destructive situations.  Poor & obscure folks do it all the time.

You listed only a few instances. Just the ones that ended badly.

Many players...Like Travis Henry, Ricky Williams, Pacman Jones, Who was the guy arrested with firearms on his way to allegedly kill his wife? Mike Vick, Marcus Vick. Joey Porter...Also Shot in Denver. Nearly 7 or 8 of the Dirty Bungles. The list of criminals and idiots is growing in the NFL but has already taken over the NBA.

Obviously these people want to carry on a lifestyle that they may have had or even desired to have as kid. It's a shame really that anybody making so much money would have to do such stupid things. I think people who live this lifestyle, forget that they made that money through ludicrous contracts and advertising. Not from a life of crime. They think they can "stop" and be clean as a whistle whenever they want, they are probably more worried about a sports related injury than a home invasion ending there career or even taking there life.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Hmmn, where are the home defense gun guys?  House broken into.  Bedroom broken into.  One of the most physically fit people in the nation has only a machete for defense, gets shot, and dies.

Could any home alarm system have saved him?  Could any law enforcement operation have responded in time?

Looks like a textbook case to support people being trained and armed to defend their homes.

It's my understanding that previous scrapes with the MAN made it impossible for him to legally own /buy a firearm

Correct. He was facing 46 years in prison if convicted on three aggravated assault charges and one misdemeanor charge stemming from a confrontation last June with a group of people in a dispute over all-terrain vehicles that Taylor owns. A weapon was present.  He got off pretty clean with plea bargaining.

Another fine product of the Miami Hurricanes.

I wouldn't be surprised if he knew his murderer.

the felony charges against Taylor were dropped on a plea bargain in 2006, so he should have been able to have a gun under Florida law. Unless he had prior felony convictions.

To end up getting ZERO time in jail when you are facing 46 years in prison is a pretty amazing plea agreement.   I doubt that any of us could get such a sweet deal if we got into similar trouble.

But you are right, in that the terms of his agreement were that he could no longer possess firearms.

And even the BIGGEST knife ( A Machete ) is pretty inadequate to bring to a gun fight.   The gun will win almost every time.

I've read that he was turning his life around.  The inciting force was the birth of his first child.  While this may just be the result of close friends painting a rosey picture of the decedent, maybe, just maybe it was true.

I saw the same things. Teammates said that he had calmed down in his lifestyle and was generally a better person since his daughter was born.

I think people are jumping to conclusions when they say it was someone from his past. Could have been some insane fan, or something the like.

Apparently Sean Taylor did not know his killers. I made a false assumption in my previous posts about Sean and I apologize to jumping to conclusions.

Though Sean did have his run ins with the law previously which drove me to an unjustifield conclusion erronously, its obvious that he was truly a victim here, and his killers were the ones surrounding themselves in a culture of drugs and crime. If found guilty, I hope they get the death penalty.

I made the same assumption ~  I never even bothered reading a stitch about it before or after.
