Jimbob said the famous last words of all redneck stunt people just before the Eastern Diamondback sunk its venomous fangs into his face while he was holding a beer and cigarette in one hand and the snake by the tail in the other.

Ah, no wonder you didn't add the preface, "Hold my beer..." to the famous line, "..watch this!".  He's still holding his beer.  That's where he made his mistake.

Not me in the photo. I caught the snake by hand and was taking the photo. It had actually crawled up in my boat at the dock. Found it when I went back to get something. That particular moment was a bit exciting.

Crazy redneck relative is holding the snake. He's a decorated combat veteran though so please don't make too much fun.

We were in absolutely no danger at all.

No funning here, serious question one Texan to another....

Why the hell would you ever NOT immediately kill a rattlesnake you found in your personal area?

A normal person would, but we are talking Texans here.   :D

I might kill a rattlebug in my personal area if I felt like cleaning and eating it. They are pretty good. Otherwise I'd probably just catch it with a pole/snare, put it in the back of the truck and go relocate it somewhere a fair distance away.

The only time I'm usually around them much is Spring turkey hunting later in the season. Have to watch out for them because they may not always warn of their presence. That's usually when I've killed one to eat. Most of the time I usually just walk around them or shoo them away.

Also, the snake in the photo was not a rattlesnake or venomous. They catch a bad rap because they look like something dangerous. It was a colorful Diamondback Watersnake.
