Flight Sim Desk
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:58:36 PM »
Just ordered a flight sim desk. Has side tables for throttle, joystick ect. Thought I would give it a try. Tired of reaching forward for joystick and throttle and constantly readjusting keyboard.
Has anyone tried one of these? :)

I looked at the one CH was offering and thought for $500 I could build one myself to suit MY flying tastes.

I started off with a corner desk, removed the hutch and in the next few weeks will be adding stick & throttle slideouts mounted on salvaged keyboard tray sliders. Underneath will be pedals (once I decide which ones to get), on the desktop will be keyboard and mouse while a 22' screen sits on a pedastal about 5 inches above the desktop.

I'll post some pics when I get it all finished, one day.
Currently flying as "Ruger"

Fugitive that is just too kool! I had a similar idea floating around in my head for a few years. My thought was to make a Fokker Dr1, using the three wings as shelves. Unfortunatly time is my enemy though so I had to go the simple route. I've put your page in my fav's so if I ever do build one I can look at some kool pictures.
I should be setup before christmas. I am probally going to make one interesting mod, not to the desk but to my computer. I am going to route a dryer exhaust hose from my computer to the window so my computer will not overheat. Should be able to overclock to 4 ghz when the outside temp drops to negative 10!

Coshy I looked at some of the  $500 desks and had the same thought. I saw one the other day and they wanted $1500! But I stumbled onto the flight sim pilot website and found one for $219 before shipping costs and jumped.
I suggest CH Pedals. My original serial port ch pedal set from back in the days of Airwarrior 1, Red Baron1 still work.

This is an interesting thread , as I've had it in mind to possibly construct something along similar lines .  as I'm a sheetmetal Fabricator / Abrasive waterjet operator I could easily build a cockpit type / desk from which to fly.
Guys you all have great ideas and as I use autocad/ cam programs to design with think I could produce a winner ! Any suggestions on this would be welcomed and after designing would post a set of drawings . thanks guys

Sunking that is a desk alright , does those 3 moniters link up into a sort of 3D view , that is how I had invisioned it , or very close anyways as it has a cockpit feel in its design , looks comftorable for those long hours of play and is good for right or left handed people . That goes to show you can get anything in todays world . Nice post Sunking thank you .

You could easily connect the 3 monitors to your pc, but  Aces High 2  would have to support multiple monitors for you to use them in game.

I think that only works in the MS flightsim games atm.

The desk I purchased is similar to that but probally cheaper. Runs $219 (b4 shipping costs) and can be found here;

I haven't got to see yet. When I get it setup I'll do a thread 'Show your setup' so we can all show our setups.

OK got the desk set it up. The design is decent however; I do not recommend this desk. Standard computer chairs will not work with this desk. A mini computer case is the largest that will fit under the shelves. Most gamers use mid or towers so that's a negative. Its about 18 inches high, which is about the height of a coffee table. The shelves are too close together for most average sized peps. I'm 5'10" so that's very close to average height. The monitor mount puts the monitor below eye level. All of this is easily corrected. However for 250$ should be ready to go.

Cockpit Seat
« Reply #12 on: December 19, 2007, 01:47:48 PM »
Ok purchase the optional cockpit seat that goes with the aformentioned desk. Desk works better but still not ready to recommend it. Shelves still need to be higher and the monitor is way too low. It works but there are better options out there. After some mods I will get it working. The seat is stylish with a custom Flight sim cover but a bit narrow for older wide backsides like mine and it is uncomfortable after a few hours of playing.
