Moving controls too rapidly
« on: November 30, 2007, 11:44:16 PM »
I've been having a lot of trouble with this. I bought a new stick and I'm still having trouble. There was an update KB8881111 that was installed. Is this necessary? I have the dxdiag set to 3/4 acceleration. Originally I used the onboard sound and then loaded my sb audigy zs so I could use the game port. The new stick is usb. I also deleted the onboard sound drivers. Now I'm thinking about deleting the SB audigy. Im just not sure what the trouble is. I noticed that there is some minor hesitation when I speak or a bomb is dropped. The onboard sound system is SoundMax.

The new stick was doing great and then every little movement gave the Moving controls too rapidly error message. But just prior to that in the MA the screen froze and it became night with the clip board map frozen too.

Anyway I am at a loss here. Could use some help.

Thanks in advance.

You didn't give us any info on your new stick or your system specs. Do a google on kb8881111. It appears to be some kind of Microsoft driver update patch, which has caused others some problems. A little research may give you the answer you seek.

Meanwhile, try adding a bit more damping to the joystick axis.

How many USB items are you running? If you have a number of them, it may be a power issue. I have a powered USB hub to keep the voltage up.

It also may be a conflict issue. The "bomb dropping" comments make you think maybe the new sound card may have  a conflict when it installed.

The easiest thing to check is the dead band and damping settings. Open the stick settings in the game and click the advanced tab. Click an axis and watch the blue box to see if your stick input is bouncing around. Stick movement should cause a smooth movement of the line in the blue boxes. Bump up the dead band slider a bit at a time till the movement settles down. Be sure to check each of the axis.

Thanks all, The new stick is an x52 pro. I've had 3 screen freezes since using it. I have tried some dampenging. It seemed to help a wee bit.

I'll look at the axis' to see if they are bouncing. I've been in there alot though. Haven't seen anything.

Do you have that kb888111 on your comp?

I've read elsewhere on these boards that the X52 Pro benefits from a powered USB hub.

Are you using the drivers that came with the stick of have you downloaded the latest drivers from the Saitek website.  If I remember I also had trouble until I installed the latest drivers.

Saitek drivers.

Yes, downloaded the latest drivers. This is what I have done. Most of the problem stems from the rudder, so I scaled it as high as it will go. increased the deadband and dampening. I think the freezing was a conflict from the onboard sound and the sb audigy. I disabled the onboard sound. It seems much better. I increased the dampening and deadband on the other axis as well. I also think the stick needs to be broken in somewhat. I calibrated the z axis alone.

If there's something I missed let me know.

Really apreciated the help.

here's mine ..its scaled and dead band is up to keep me from my crazy furball ways .  Now keep in mind i built my own peds and they can be to aggressive .

but with this type of scaling it really helps . (just a example for you to try)

I found this post by Krusty to be a good place to start.

Think I have it ironed out (I hope)

At desk top I added a deadzone to the z axis. Also reloaded my USB drivers, downloaded a new beta driver for the stick, and increased the deadband and dampening in AH.

I think the deadzone at desktop is what did the job though.

Well that and following the great tips you guys provided.

Thanks all!
