Sound Level issue
« on: December 01, 2007, 12:30:44 PM »
OK this has been bugging me for over a year, I posted once in the bug forum, and it got moved here, with no answer.

symptom:
Custom adjusted sound levels for different items in game with the preferences, game sounds sliders. primary weapon, and secondary weapon set to 40%.

every sortie although the sliders say 40% they play at the default level of 80%. I can just tap and adjust any sound level in the sounds list, hit OK then the guns play at 40%. I have to do this with every plane, every sortie. the sound level will say for the duration of the sortie, but after I tower out it resets.

I have used the default built in AH sounds, waffle sounds, mitsu sounds, and some others, and this happens with all of them.

I have checked, re-checked, and RE-checked that every file in the AH sounds folder AND the settings folder are NOT set to read only.

I am running an older system, with a sound blaster live 5.1 card, and hardware acceleration is set to full.

I have no other sounds issues with the system, or the game other than this one, and it is only for primary and secondary weapon sounds.

I have re-installed AH a few times over the course of the past few years, and nothing fixes this. most recently I installed AH fresh after removing the old directory, defragmenting, then new install.

I am at a loss, I just don't want the guns in my plane so loud, since they make the subwoofer play a bit loud for my neighbors below me. Skuzzy or anyone have a solution??
I don't know what to put here yet.

Same here, I have to tap main sound slider to put gun sounds to the level I have em set every flight. It's been like this for me for a couple of years now. For some reason it's just the gun sounds all others play at the setting I have em set to.

well thats interesting someone else has this same issue. I wonder how many have it and don't realize it because they just don't change the gun sounds or don't notice it?

Incredible, I thought I was the only one with this issue.
Anyone find a remedy yet?
My guns are louder than all hell and I have to turn them down for every sortie.
Even though the slider is only on 20, it sounds like it's on 100!

Yup same issue.  I'm going to put a new sound card in and see if it makes a difference.

Turtle Beach sound card did improve the situation.  It's usable, but no mic volume control.  Hmmm now I'm wondering if I can use Virtual machine with an xp install.  So far AH crashes in virtual machine, but I just now got it installed.  We'll see.  It's an adventure in progress.

sound checking
« Reply #9 on: December 10, 2007, 08:19:22 AM »
Normally when I set up the sound for AH I check the windows sound from my speakers by bringing up start/allprograms/accessories/sound recorder.  I speak to the mic to record and then play the sound back.  If windows won't do that, I bring up sound properties and check the mic settings and properties for both sound and recording; checking unchecking and adjusting the sliders until they work the way I want.  It always worked with AH, ahhh well almost always.  I have put sound cards in from time to time to solve hardware issues. Not with Vista.  Service pack 1 for Vista may help that.  Fingers crossed.

Clueso, hardware shouldn't make a difference with this issue, it is a game setting that is not being kept.

what I find interesting is others have the same issue.

it is a relatively small thing, and probably not noticed but many... I mena how many players actually lower their gun sounds a large amount, then notice they are playing louder than they should?

Is your C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\settings\sounds.cfg "read-only" ?

Here is mine ... did you try to manually update this file and see if it works. If you manually change the file and the sound volumes don't stay, then I would say it's a bug.

I installed XP Pro.  By the way when your downgrading from Vista an XP up grade wouldn't install, and the microsoft guys were no help at all. Seems they can't imagine a downgrade.   Anyway 3d mark score was 19256 with the new operating system, the sound was flawless and game play superb!!  The best fix!!!  Now if I could just shoot straight. hehe:rolleyes:
