Guppy - skin submission help
« on: December 03, 2007, 07:30:29 AM »
Hey,

Getting ready to submit "Paddy" and am wondering which book I should reference as my skinning resource.   Where'd that artist's profile you posted a while ago come from?   Thanks for your help!

This is the one I'm referring to:

Photos and profile of Paddy are from "Adorimini-A History of the 82nd Fighter Group in World War II" by Steve Blake and John Stanaway.

Wings palette just takes profiles from other artists. It is not a reference in itself. Also, those artists can be inaccurate, or just plain wrong, in some cases.

Only use wings palette for inspiration, and then move on to gathering BETTER resources after that.

Thanks again, Dan.

I might as well ask about this photo, too - I'm pretty sure I will be able to work around the stretching issues on the 38's nose to be able to show this checkerboard fairly well.   Not perfect, but OK from most angles.   That's my hope anyway.

So where did you find this photo:

I'm doing it same as your quick profile, except yellow/black on the checkerboard.   Prop hub spiral won't work, given the way the spinner is mirrored on the skin.

I'll use your suggested tail serial number, and skin this late model J as a
P-38L, since it has dive flaps, wing landing light, hydraulic ailerons, etc.   It would be more incorrect to skin it as the early J we have.

Also, any idea's for authentic nose art on the left fuselage nose?   Would they have been likely to include the 1stFG's shield emblem, or the Hat in the Ring logo for the 94th Pursuit squad:

Thanks for all your help!
