Second hole at my course on Sunday.  Wind was pretty strong from left to right, par 3 hole about 165 years.

I hit a six iron down the left side which the wind helped to push to the desired landing spot on the green.  When it hit the green I turned around to put my club away thinking I was safely on the dance-floor.

Just before I reached the cart the guys on the Tee started yelling and one friend yelled "You are going to miss it man!!"  When I looked the ball was still rolling and the natural slope of the green was funnelling it down towards the hole.  When it finally stopped it looked from the Tee that it was hanging on the edge of the cup and given the wind it looked like it might drop.

Unfortunately the hole was actually behind the ball by about 3 inches, it just looked from that direction that it was right on the lip.

Tap in for the bird...but DAMN that was close.  Closest I've ever come to an ace.

I won't comment on the rest of my round though.

I got a hole-in-one once, but it was at mini-golf :D

hopefully the club house was empty for your 1 ...  I got lucky years ago, it only cost me a Benjamin  for mine .


My cousin nailed one at pebble beach and almost had to declare bankruptcy .

On Sunday one of my buddies described how when he goes on a golfing trip to North and South Carolina every year the group brings along a skirt.

The skirt is worn by the first player who does not make it past the ladies tee and that player MUST keep it on until the next person doesn't make it.

It is a sort of PC way of doing it though.

Tradition dictates that the "di@k out" rule must be adhered to with respect to the ladies tee....if you don't get it past the ladies tee you play the next hole with the wang swinging in the breeze.

Congratulations!  A hole in one is one of those fundamental rites of passage.  Particularly challenging if you don't play golf.  

(Brief minor hijack)  Another one is single-handling a small boat across an ocean (A Speck on the Sea, William H. Longyard, McGraw-Hill, 2003).
(You are now being returned to regular programming)

Got within three feet a couple times and those were exciting.  Never saw anyone get any closer, but I golf infrequently.

Hah nice, too bad it didn't fall.  I hate how it always looks a lot closer from far away, then you get up to the dance floor and go "damnit" hehe.

My favorite golf moment....

I was playing hookie one day and played as a single on a local course. I was on the 8th tee, a 180 yard par 3 with an elevated tee box. Just as I was teeing up a pair of golfers arrives. One is Brandy Burton. At the time she was a teen phenom and played on the LPGA tour. The other was her coach. I immediately offered to let them play through, but they would have none of that... I had to hit. I was not comfortable, here was a pro and a pro's coach watching my pitiful swing.

I nailed it. landed about 18 inches from the cup, bounced over and spun back to about 2 feet. I tried very hard to play it cool... no big deal. LOL, I think they saw through me. Brandy said "nice shot", the coach just reminded me to make the putt. I did, thank god.
