Seeing and Shooting Through Trees

Interesting post in other forum.  Then I checked it out.  Apparenly, I have found out why it is so easy for me to die in a tank.

You can mess with your graphics settings, see through the trees.  And, many times, I have seen the person shooting at me, but when I shoot back, the shell explodes in "nonexistent trees".

Thus, my wish list item is to prevent the graphics from doing this, some how.

I see what your saying. But I do not see any possible way to do that because the graphics you change are in your computer, and not all the people have a good video card so HTC needs to give people choices. And you can not limit the number of times you can allow user to change a certain graphic option because when you set up the game you are tying many different options.

I agree. You should not be able to turn down your settings to be able see player objects. If a tree is hiding a tank or M3 or what ever, it stays hiden.

would be nice if it could some how hide a GV thats hiding behind hills, trees and shrub rows. surprised me to, i thought it was cool moving through the country side spot to spot. Kind of seems like it takes from any realistic play.

I don't see why it doesn't just make them invisible if they're behind an "invisible" object, other than looking odd. But then they'd cry about that.

was flying over a v-base under gv attack the other day and was asked to spot for the gv's on the ground so i did.  Anyway i spotted the usual array of tigers and panzers but more interestingly i saw 4 M3's all parked up sitting in pairs near the base (definately in range of my teams guns) i had already killed a couple of gv's and a/c and so I had little ammo to deal with them.  So I called them out to the gv's who then told me that they couldn't see them.  I could't understand how they didn't see them (one pair were about 1.5 k from the base) so i started firing my bb's to mark them, still no joy. I then went into a steep climb, looked behing me and suddenly a hill appeared.  I don't know how I didnt see it the first time but i positively saw something appear that turned out to be the hill.  Funky eh?

chase what your probably seeing there is your ground detail range being set to low  or being in the wrong vis mode.

Play around with the sliders (get it)  and shift or ctrl f1,f2,f3   vis modes.

I leave mine on full but ground vis works good also.

Well, the term minimum requirements comes to mind. Instead of changing the game for the systems, require the systems to meet a standard for the game. That way you don't have to game the game to survive the gv fights. It was a thrill in early days to use trees, bushes etc to wind my way to bases... only to be picked off by some invisible tank and find out later I was visible to them the whole time as they had made the trees and bushes I was counting on vanish. The intent may be for a few who have slower graphics, but it is abused to the point if you do not turn down your graphics, you will be killed often and invisibly. Sliders are abused, I agree, make them go away and make the world what it should be, wysiwyg.

I saw that for the first time last night. I have my setting real low for performance and although I can see the enemy dot far away, if I try to shoot him, the shells explode on terrain I cant see. However, the enemy was shooting thru those same trees.

The worst effect is to render hedgerows, trees and terrain as valueless in a  stealthy approach. You have to play as if they do not exist and you are seen upon a flat plain from many miles away. Pretty much gives defenders a huge advantage. The attacker is seen coming from afar no matter the terrain or cover and he is stuck with the trees up close blocking his view of defenders. That is why you see defenders at the far ends and back of bases so they are able to deal with any gvs trying to approach close. If defenders are far enough away, they do not resolve the trees near base and attackers are revealed that have come close in the trees or behind hills. It works both ways for all sides, however I have noticed some rarely attack and usually plant themselves in defensive rolls. My 2c.

the problem i've noticed is ill be in a forest and they can shoot through the freakin trees. ill just be riding along and the shot will come out of nowhere. then i will find that he is 3k out shooting through all the trees. how does that happen?

They should make it like this.  If you turn your graphix down and you can't see the trees...then you can't see the GV's either.  Also make the Panzer and Tiger skins the green color.  Because if you disable the skins of other players they stick out like a sore thumb.

If a tree is in the way the shell WILL hit the tree or other object.

Soon as hills and distance become involved the trajectory of the shell is most important.

The other guy may be able to lob the shell OVER the object you think your sitting behind from where he is.   With his graphics turned down he can see clearly where you are.

The old terrain was much harder with the little copses and hedgerows.  The change to the new one was the biggest change to GVing.  It is now much easier to spot through lack of cover.
