My friend and I are getting a Bronco II for free from a security guard at school.  It needs work, a lot, a ton, too much.  So we're thinking about taking it to a scrapyard and getting $50 or whatever for it since it's free anyway.  The main problem though, is that the outer tie rod ends are damn near about to fall out (tie rod ends on BIIs are basically expandable rubber).

Here's the extremely dumb part: how bad would it be to tow it with another truck for ~10 miles?  I wouldn't drive it at 40MPH, that's for sure but would they stay together long enough to get it there?  If not, s there a way to hold the connection together for that distance?

Considering the price of gas, you might break even by the time you tow it....I'd negotiate with the security guard to have him pay you to take it.  If he won't pay you to remove it,  let him sit on it  for a couple of weeks, he'll be calling you. Then you can name your price for removal. :aok

If he gives it away to someone else, you'll have their stories to laugh about. ;)

GL, if the motor is a 2.9L, it's not worth it.   That motor is the worst engine Ford ever made.

Yeah it's the 2.9.  It runs, rear drive shaft is shot to hell though so I might end up disconnecting the driveshaft and driving in 4-Hi to the junkyard (doesn't need a transfer case in there does it?).  My friend wants to roll it but I'm not so sure about that.

get some tools and a haynes manual and start ripping it apart...then put it back together. the experience should be worth more than $50, and you can always get the $50 later.

That's the best advice you have gotten yet. Learn to work on the critter. Get it running and sell it.

I don't have the money to invest in the heap so I'm not even going to try.  I might be able to get more than $100 for the engine and transmission but I don't feel like going through the hassle.

Don't invest then.  Just take apart what you have and rebuild it with those parts.  Then, if it doesnt run, fine.  If it does, then you may be able to sell it for a couple bucks more.

When I was in H.S. a girl I was dating's sister had an old Mustang she sold me and 3 friends for @ $2-300.

It still ran, but it was on it's last legs.

We drove it into walls.  Tore the doors off driving in reverse into trees.  Did all kinda mean, nasty things to it.  (jumping it off a makeshift ramp was a hoot)

That was a good saturday.  Best $50-75 bucks i've ever spent.
