This is the machine which I have,it has an integrated ati  card..

 Can I upgrade the video card easily?I have upgraded to a gig of ram,and am trying to get things to work a little easier..

the prices are UK based so if your in the USA double the price for a rough guesstimate.

if your not to clued up on pc's take the system specs to the shop with you and tell the person that you what "a graphics card that will work with this system". that way if it dosent work you can take it back and say you were sold hardware that is no use to you and either get your money back or get one that will work ( you were sold the device on miss information.the shops fault). if you dont then the shop can say "sorry but there's nothing wrong with the hardware and we can not replace/refund you".

even though i no a fair bit about pc's and dont have any problems picking out an upgrade i ALWAYS  ask if it will work with my system.

It would help if you could give an estimate on how much you can spend..

Visit http://www.tomshardware.com and display cards - section there. They have a very nice shopping guide with a speed comparison of cards listed in different price categories.

 So basically I would just plug into the card in the comp now,,well,the "CHIIP",and just turn it off,and then run the other card I have installed?sounds pretty easy...

 And ripley,I am thinking about 150-200 for a card...

Actually you'd want to disable the onboard video in Bios after installing the card.

Once you do that it should then see the new video card and prompt for drivers.

Currently the Ati Radeon 3850 is unmatchable in the $200 range.

Since I'm an nvidia fan, the cheapest DX10 card (if you're looking for one) I can recommend is this 8800GT 512mb at $260.

However, ATI has the better lower end DX10 card.  In your price range, the ATI 3850 is the best choice.

ok GUYS,THANKS FOR THE REPLYS,AND just so I have not confused anyone,cobra44's thread is not my comp..

 But I have found some issues with mine,and want to run over them here with you..

 My wattage on Power supply is only 300 with 30A..12v. rail is only 19A.

 I will be looking at cards after typing this,but am wondering if I can get a decent card within these specs,and if not,I guess I will have to upgrade my PS to at least 400w??

 I would of went with the 3850,but wattage was wrong.and whats with the ddr2 as opposed to ddr3 memory?

given the restraints on power you have due to0 the 300W single rail PSU, the super high end offerings from Nvidia and especially the power hogging ATI cards are kind of out of the question.. BUT you dont really need anything like that anyway..

even if you had the juice to push one of those cards it would still be money wasted because your CPU would be the bottle neck anyway..

for your current setup and for running AH2 z mid level 7 series nvidia card would be more than ample

all of those cards are sub $100 and will make a huge improvement over your integrated VGA..   and shouldest give your 300W PSU any problems.

just remember:

A: after inserting the card, disable your on-board VGA

B: go to http://www.nvidia.com and download current drivers, no telling what windows will install or ho dated the drivers on the CD are..

download the latest version of DirectX (9.0C given you have XP)

I'd highly recommend EVGA cards, mainly for their lifetime warranty.  BFG also offers this.

You need to check your facts, the HD3850 draws 15 watts less power than the most energy efficient nvidia card today, 8800GT. The GT draws 110 watts.
