I already filled out the form for my quickie $25. It's a good thing I still have those credit card statements from '98.

Nearly 30 million Americans may be eligible for at least $25 from the settlement of a class-action lawsuit.

The lawsuit against several credit card companies alleges they overcharged customers when converting foreign currencies into dollars on credit and debit purchases.

People making overseas purchases using Visa, Mastercard or Diners Club cards issued by major American banks between February, 1996 and November of 2006 may be eligible for compensation.

Not 99%... I spent 4 years in Germany from 94 to 98, used my debit card and credit card several times to get dmarks from ATMs and plus most military were issued government AmEx cards for travel on TDYs. I have also since then made purchases on ebay from sellers in UK and Australia.

Interesting, the Commerce Commission in NZ investigated this and found the card companies guilty, ordered the payback. Anyone with a credit card got their money back and didn't have to raise a finger

I have received notification in the mail of this class action last week.

I wasn't sure if it was some kind of scam though.

I often use a debit or credit card when traveling internationally as it's a great way to get cash that’s in foreign currency. ATMs are everywhere.

Amazes me to no end I can get cash from my bank account in the States like that from anywhere in the world.

That would be considered socialism and counter productive to business here.

The problem with Americans and travel is you can get on a plane here, fly for six hours, get off and discover you still haven't gone anywhere.

Many Europeans slag off Americans because such a small percentage have ever been abroad when compared with Europeans. What they forget is that America is roughly the same size as European. What percentage of Europeans have ever left Europe? That would be a fairer comparison.

I did that this year actually, flew entire length of your country N - S then E - W + drove about 2,000 miles. It is easier for Europeans to travel - i could declare war on France and be doing a victory parade through Paris within an hour or so from London. hi straffo!
