From the get go, the 474th was configured as a P-38 ground attack unit though they also provided bomber escort and level bombing using Norden equipped "Droop Snoops.":aok

What's wrong with my light bomber?  

Any of the 38 units that operated in the ground attack role at one time or another had Droop Snoots.  That includes the 8th AF 38s, 9th AF and the MTO 38 groups.

They sometimes were used with Jug or 51 groups too.

If you are nice I'll tell ya what happened to the last Droop Snoot in the 474th.  It's a good story :)

I just have to point out the obvious "freudian slip" here.  

The "yoke" connection to eggs is too strong to ignore.

Especially when you realize the slang term for bombs is "eggs".

So, you defend the P38 against a classification of bomber by causing us to think of P38's and bombs?

Another angle we should examine is the fact that eggs have yokes inside them, as do P38's.  Ever dropped an egg?  Ever seen a P38 dive-bomb?  Both events often end up with pieces of yoke spread all over the place...
