Turning down Graphics to see thru things...
« on: December 13, 2007, 05:26:12 PM »
I spawned into a Rook V Base... AAdiesel and A8jonplr we're there to greet me.

I filmed the sortie. I had no viual of either guy, but they sure knew where I was. One flanked left the other (diesel) right. Somehow diesel had shots on my tank. I asked how he did after my death. He said "EASY". Turn down the graphics so you see thru things (or they don't appear I imagine).

Here's some screenies...

A8jonplr fireing at me while Im behind a big hill...

The round grasing my head (as the round goes thru the hill)

It passes me and goes thru the hill behind me and hits...

My view, looking for diesel's tiger...

His view. I'm guessing That Bush is what blocked my view and not his (graphics turned down?)...

Looking at the film, this was pretty interesting. Is there a way for the graphics to be standard for all GVers? To even the playing field I guess. people on 200 were saying it's common. But anyway, just thought I'd share and ask. Thanks! <> AADiesel, A8jonplr

I wont comment on the adjusting details to see through objects.

But there is one misconception in your text:

"It passes me and goes thru the hill behind me and hits..."

This is not exatcly true. It only seems like the round is going through the hill. Actually it is going over it. If your enemy had filmed that combat and would post the pics you could see it.
Enemy rounds are not rendered the same exact way your own are. They are (more or less) just graphical representations. Ever seen an enemy Ostwind taking down a town? Did you never wonder why all of his shells seem to fly through the town, yet buildings go "boom"?
If you lob your shells over an obstacle, it may look for your enemy as if you shot through them too.

There is no way to actually shoot through a object, invisible or not.

Unless, as the general question asks, the actual presence of the object is tied to the display of said object.

Meaning if there's a flaw or loophole in the code, as many of these threads have asked about and/or suggested.

I don't know either way, just clarifying the point (hopefully).

This may be a good way to fix it.  I've been complaining about this one for a while now... it really ruins the game for GVers where cover and concealment are so important and you enemies can see you when they shouldn’t be able to.

Did they ever say what the issue was? Was it a collision, culling or just a simple glitch?

No, it won't.

There was an error in the code that allowed GVs to render when they shouldn't. So, when it's released GVs won't render when the graphics are turned down...at least that's the way I believe that's how it was explained.

Exactly, because I dont have a super computer I have to run with object detail on the halfway mark when flying, and almost all the way to "faster" when GVing. From what I understand when the new patch comes out I wont beable to see GVs untill they are almost on top of me.  So now the guys wilh thousand dollar rigs can see me from far out and I will be at a disadvantage.

I think it's the distance at which certain objects appear, not the vehicles. ie, under the current setup, you can see the tank, but not the barn/hill/tree it's behind, but when it's fixed, the object will still appear, and the tank will be hidden.

Might have misunderstood HTC's post myself, but I don't think they're going to make GVs disappear due to ground clutter settings. Why render useless terrain objects and not players?

I've noticed LVTs trying to shell shore batteries, and from flying overhead, the rounds go straight thru.

Similar issue?

No. That's just the way other player's shell flight paths are rendered on your computer: Not with that fine detail like your own. You will see the same when Ostwinds are taking down towns. And that's also the reason for sometimes gettign the impression that the enemy shoots you through a hill.
