I am Legend (Some Spoilers)
« on: December 14, 2007, 09:15:52 PM »
Just got back from that movie.

Let me begin by saying it was the worst movie experience I have ever been too.

We arrived plenty early. Found good seats, then the children arrived. The entire theater was packed and people continued to come in well into the film.

For nearly half the movie, these kids ran there filthy mouths until an employee threatened them with being thrown out. In the beginning of the film there is not very much dialog, and long periods of silence were mixed with flashbacks of the plague where he parts from his family.

So you can understand with the talking teeny boppers during the beginning. But it was pretty cool, he was trying to capture the plague victims to try to find a cure, so he was setting traps for them, running around with a nice M4 (Which he dropped...countless times).

Anyway...after a dramatic change of course. Will Smith goes from trying to cure the zombies to trying to kill them.  Thats when he is found by two survivors, which honestly...I can't remember there name in the film.

But the movie quickly comes to an end after that. The ending...Well...Is very quick and turns the movie completely around, in a very predictable Hollywood type manner.

The special effects were decent, but my friends and I laughed afterward, saying that part of the plagues symptoms was that your mouth grew three sizes larger.

Save yourself some money...Read the Short Story collection. All in all...wait for DVD.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I read the book in 1969. Thanks for the heads up, I'll save this one for the free "on tv" version in  a couple of years.

I just got back too, and although the movie was entertaining for a night, it was also very forgettable...

I thought the CGI was God Awful in some parts...Particularly in the deer and the lions...I'll take the beast from Narnia lol...

I liked the movie up until the point where the two other survivors save Will Smith.  That, and after I realized there was an "alpha zombie"....God...................... ............................. ...

One thing I didn't get.....Fred the manican (sp) was moved by the zombies to snare will smith right?

No..I think he fell into his own trap. Although I'm not 100% certain.

WARNING........SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another incredibly stupid part of the movie was where he sent the two other survivors into the crawl space to hide out until dawn.....If these super zombies can break through re-enforced steel doors and, bullet proof glass, what the hell is going to stop them from bashing through a wooden door...lol

Is this movie anything like 'Omega Man' starring Charleton Heston?
Kind of sounds like a similar movie plot. The 'enemy' weren't zombies though in that movie.

It wasn't bad.

But I think it is a perfect example of what happens when Hollywood gets a hold of a good book.

It could of been so much better.

Read the book then see the movie. You will see.

Or rent Omega Man.

I read the book some time ago and I have to say that I certainly didn't see Will Smith in this role.

Perhaps they should have retitled it "I Be Legend" then.

As the manager of a Movie Theater let me give you guys a few pointers. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever goto see a movie on opening day / weekend  if you want to actually enjoy it. All the prettythangholes and teeny boppers come out the first weekend and always ruin every show. Come to see the movie on the 2nd or 3rd week/weekend it's out and come to the early shows for the best time (usually).

Yes this is a remake of the Charlton Heston film, The Omega Man. Both films were based on the same Legend book from 1954.

From the viewer reviews I have seen so far. I'll wait until this hits the DVD rentals. It shouldn't take very long at all. Hopefully the DVD will have an alternate ending since no one seems to like the one in the theater version.

They weren't zombies in the first movie either, just victims of a mutated virus that didn't allow them to be out in the sun or even bright light. Heston's character was a scientist who ends up creating a vaccine  to fight it but dies just as he succeeds in treating a couple of victims. The ending was a nice visual crucifixion allegory.

See, I was planning on doing the opposite.  If I don't read the book first, then the movie can stand on its own, only to be later ridiculed by the book.  But that won't change me enjoying the movie.

This is one of the few movies I wanted to see in this past year.
