Who's contributing?
« on: December 16, 2007, 11:41:04 PM »
It's interesting to see who the top contributors are to each presidential candidate.  It really says a lot about who they represent.

Mitt Romney: http://opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00000286&cycle=2008
Rudy Giuliani: http://opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00009908&cycle=2008
Mike Huckabee: http://opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00007539&cycle=2008
Fred Thompson: http://opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00003136&cycle=2008

Compare that to Ron Paul: http://opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00005906&cycle=2008

The same exercise on the democrat side is interesting too.  To look this info up, pick the candidate on this link:
http://opensecrets.org/pres08/index.asp
Then click 'Top Contributors' on the left column.  Paste any good finds here.

Note, these aren't companies themselves that are contributing, it's people from those companies.

Choir, In reality, the way the rule is, the companies' can simply donate in the employees' name-they don't need the employees' permission or anything, They just have to throw an odd number out so it does look like a contribution pool. Not that it really matters; They can/will give money in other ways.

Alot of the names' on those lists' really don't suprise me. They pretty much land where they're interests' lie.

Why not Laz? That's the way it works for China and the dems.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

No they cant, that is a federal crime, as is reimbursing the employee for donations.

Semi-related note, Huckabee tried a 'money-bomb' like what worked for Ron Paul.  If y'all remember, Ron Paul folks did that last week and raised $10 million.

The Huckabee camp tried the same bit and made slightly less:

How do the US Army and the US Navy contribute to political campaigns?

My tax dollars?  I thought the military was prohibited from supporting any particular party or candidate.

military personnel isn't.

Found it amazing that some of the candidates already have debts .... i wonder how are those settled afterwards for the winner... somehow i feel it might be covered by the government...

AWMac: I have no hidden agenda, I'm a registered Republican voting for Ron Paul.  Silly you, you've really pooched that insinuation up.

Why would I care about the democrats?

I know that, but two large contributors listed on Pauls link are US Navy and US Army... not PFC Smith or Ensign Jones.

That's just a quirk of how the reporting works, it's not the organizations contributing, it's people who identify themselves as 'employees of' those agencies.

So when I see a contribution from Halliburton or Exxon Mobil for 1/2 a million, how do I know that's not from evil corporation and just from a bunch of joe six packs?
