Did you end up off the runway, because even if you wrecked your plane on the runway as long as it said "successfully landing" you still keep your life.

Well, I was able to pop into the event about 15 mins before start and then had to go afk.. got back a couple minutes before the launch and I just figured I'd spawn and form up on whoever was driving.  I didn't know who was in command or anything. Just saw the MOTD about what airfields hit what strats ( and had to be corrected to look at bottom of MOTD to see revisions ).

After the launch I saw something about forming up on you, but the last time I saw you, you were 10k below and just leaving icon range.  I looked around and saw a lot of orphan formations, so, thinking that keeping altitude was kinda important,  I just started trying to get everybody clumped together.  I've been commanding bomber formations for years, so it was second nature to herd the cats.  Sorry if I overstepped the bounds.  Great job by the escorts to get us to the first target.  On the way, they advised altering course to avoid the swarm of defenders, so we turned south, allowing the bulk of lead bombers to squeak by.

I do have one vivid recollection of a view towards the back of the formation.  Everybody back there was out of icon range but you could see the dots dancing.  I saw what looked like 4 dots split-ess from high alt and dive down on what I believe were bombers...  line astern.. straight down.. looked like something from a war movie.  My thoughts were 'Oh dear, these guys are attacking like the real ones did. '

I do love these things.

No kills, only used one life, but I had a BLAST!

We had a healthy number of P-47 pilots show up at the last minute, and we managed to get organized over APDrone's bomber group.  Thanks to Cbizkit and a few others that helped me keep track of the entire stream.  We were engaged by very high Ta-152's before the first target, but we managed to keep the bombers clear.  We lost a few in this engagement, and the Ta's and 190's mostly ran from us once their advantage was gone.  I lost an elevator, but stayed in the fight to get things organized for the run to the second target.  Things got real busy from here, and we were unable to shake off a constant stream of enemy fighters that poured in on the bombers.  We got tangled up, and the bombers pushed out ahead of us.  I remember breaking free, and finally catching up to the bomber formation  that was smothered with 6-7 enemy planes raking them, I could not control the situation as I had 2-3 bandits of my own to worry about.  My calls on the radio found only light support that was a long ways away, and it was over by the time the few planes available arrived on the scene.  By then it was every man for himself trying to get to the closest friendly base.

I got picked up by a tenacious 190D-9 that followed me for what seemed like 10 minutes as I tried to escape.  Slowly decending, I was able to stay barely out of his guns using a notch of flaps to offset the penalty of a missing elevator.  Krusty was almost my savior, but I was able to work a HO shot, and the 190 got more of my plane than I got of his.   It was too close to the end of the frame that I did not up a new plane, and watched the rest from the tower.   Axis, it was a good event.

Thanks ROC and others who had a part in planning, hosting, and designing this snapshot.

I found these two pics of your group forHIM.  Put a smilie on my face when I saw your last 3 formations close up quickly.

Time's fun when you're having flies.
