I just started flying the p38 and now I can't stop. I'd like to see what everybody else thinks about it, along with any hints/tips to flying it, or if anybody else hates it. Plz tell me what you guys think about it.

P-38 is a great ride but takes alot of work to master. Best place to ask this is in the training forum. I'd look for any of murders posts. He has links to a lot of great stuff (both overall and 38 specific). Set up a time to work with murder or one of the other trainers in the TA. 38 is a plane that is not easy to learn on your own...

38G is my baby.  That's what I fly.  I die a lot in it as it's a big target and folks seem to shoot at the 38s first from what I can tell.

Good fun all around.  Turns well, has a good ammo load for a lousy shot like me and looks good :)

I used to prefer the G to the J/L, not because it was "better" but because it was the early model. Much like flying the hurr1 or the 109E, or the P40, when you've got much better models around. It also was an interesting challenge to fight without WEP.

However, since they added the missing 600+ lbs to the 38G it flies almost identically to the others, so I've lost interest.

Oh well. Just my perception of it. It's a decent plane for sure.

P-38 sucks and is only flown by those that need the crutch of a second engine.

It's a superb light bomber, but no match for Col Sanders in a D-9. ;)

Furball should know that hijacking a P-38 thread to discuss girlfriends is scandalous.

Definately a perception Krusty, cause it works like it used to from what I can tell :)

I'd fly the P-38G a lot except that I can't see very well through its gunsight -- too dark.

While the front view on the G seems to be the no. 1 complaint, I have more trouble losing the enemy behind the front canopy bars in the J and L than the G.    Once you get used to it, you stop noticing the armored glass.

38 is a great ride except for the fact that only the worst shots could miss hitting that wingspan.
