Truth is I was sorely disappointed in Carter but still thought of him as a good person. Until the last few years that is since he's gone of the deep end and imagines himself as somehow politically relevant, right up there with the likes of Sean Penn.

It's not like he was ever POTUS or anything and ... well, Nancy, Reagan was a better actor than Sean. I'm not as good as Laz at seeing deeply into your soul and knowing exactly what color it is, and all, but I do suspect your biggest problem with Carter is he said something bad about Bush. Just sayin'.

My biggest problem with Carter is as I said before, he failed miserably as president. If for no other reason than this he should keep mouth shut. Of course he won't and it is (until Hillary gets in office) still a free country.

Mmmmok. Mmmmmwhatever. You've ... ummm ... made your point. As concisely as you could. And to think. Someone almost got away with making Carter look good here. ;)

7. "I'm not going to get into a name-calling match with somebody (Vice President Dick Cheney) who has a 9 percent approval rating." -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat.

I wonder what percentage he needs...  after all Congress is hovering about 20 to 25% approval...

Carter had to have been less popular than Bush. :)

(- voted 1980 .... Carter - wasn't fooled by the media hype - understands diplomacy better than the average neocon - and yes, sorry, Reagan already seemed a bit ... mentally disconnected .... )

Had Carter been reelected (:rofl ) would the hostages have been released?

He did have some nice sweaters.

Carter didn't "persuade" the Iranians to release our diplomats until it became apparent that Ronald "I'll bomb them back to the Stone Age" Reagan would be the next president.

Could Carter have scored such a success without the not-so-subtle threat from Reagan?  Possibly...but he had precious little success in that regard until the fall of '79.
