I Just Tripled My Connection Speed!

Living out here in the sticks is peaceful and all, but it leaves something to be desired when it comes to hi speed isp's. No DSL, no cable and I'm SOL using microwave because of my location. BUT, I will not be denied access to hi speed!!!

Tonight, it became so! I bought a new Motorola Q PDA and have been surfing the net for tips and tricks. I stumbled across a thread that gave me exact simple instructions for using it as a modem without paying for an extra service (I already have unlimited data usage).

Altho I can't take advantage of G3 networking (because it is not available in my neck of the woods yet) I can use the GSM networks. My dialup isp normally logged me in at 33.6kbps. Now tethering to my PDA I connect at 10Mbps!

I smell a cancelled dialup account!:D

that's a huge jump in bandwidth you're making, makes me remember when I first got broadband...  I went hog wild downloading crap for weeks!

File Manager, Windows, find IntShrUI.exe make shortcut and put it in start menu. Start IntShrUI, hit left soft key "connect"

plug in usb cable and go.

There has to be more to that story. I have an unlimited data usage plan, how would a provider know what the data was used for? But thanks for the heads up.

BTW, AH runs just dandy with no lag or warps!

"Unlimited" might not mean the same to your mobile phone provider as it does to you. Make sure you check that there isn't a limit specified in the small print of the terms and conditions. see for example http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20060726/1926251.shtml

After digging thru the "fine print" (which BTW was never mentioned or signed by me) seems AT&T has their butt covered.
