IPOD Help
« on: December 26, 2007, 07:10:38 PM »
So I just got an IPOD...I uploaded some songs on my uncle's computer, and than when I get home, I downloaded Itunes and went to upload some songs on my computer....As I tried, it told me I would have to delete the songs uploaded with another Itunes, and it can only accept songs from a single itunes....

Is this true?  Can Ipod's really only upload songs from the same PC/Itunes?

Ipods are junk.

I bought a 4gb RCA brand MP3 player, it works flawlessly. Plus you just copy/paste songs from your computer into the mp3 player, dont even need to run software for it. The PC sees it just like a usb jump drive.

Only $150 too

Only benefit I've ever found with Ipods is there large diversity of aftermarket stuff, like protectors etc etc.  Otherwise, their revolution is a bit date.  Got my Samsung T9 last year, absolutely love it.

I got the Zune (80Gb version).  Wonderful piece of equipement.  I used a utility I found on the web to convert all my itunes music from their protected version to mp3's and downloaded to my zune.

I would image that if you converted your uncles protected itune songs to mp3 you would be good to go.

The program I used is called protected music converter and found it here:

http://www.m4p-mp3.com/  Its a 14 day trial, but it worked well for me.

Im not a huge fan of iPods but they are not junk.

You prolly have some DRM issues. Ive had em too and it sucks. In my case I had bought some songs on iTunes (free vouchers didnt pay for em). The issue was that I had to verify the iTunes software on both the mac i bought em on and the iTunes software on the other laptop that i wanted to transefer them to. I think you can verify 10 computers and gadgets. When that was done there were no more issues.

That beeing said, ill never buy mp3s. CDs are the only solution unless you dont give a crap about audio quality.

iPods are freakin' amazing.
Strip the DRM you nubs.  Then you can put anything you want on it. I've got 2 shuffles & I gave my g/f an 80g Classic for our anniversry. Picked up the iPod to RCA cable adapters, and we watch whatever she downloads on TV. Shows, podcasts, movies.

I've got the iPhone, which is a talking iPod, and it's great.  The only thing I don't like is what cav58d is running into.  Apple is such a big lawsuit target, they went out of their way to make their care for copyright plausible  to protect themselves.  It means we gots to use iTunes (which is the devil on Windows, it's probably better on MacOS go figure) or something similar.

There are other programs that can manage your music, as moot mentioned.

But save yourself a lot of trouble.  Don't encode to AAC, encode to MP3 instead when you're ripping your CDs.  That'll cut most of the DRM crap out of your life.

I love how some people are convinced that ipods are junk. They could never be more wrong. My sister always said ipods were crap so she bopught a creative zin. she never could get it to work. Meanwhile i have never had a problem with my Ipod.

I owned 3-4 MP3 players before the iPhone, and the iPhone is the one I've used the most so far.  The interface is easy, my gripes are pretty low.  The second best MP3 player I owned was an Insignia DV-4.

I learned that there are plenty of MP3 players out there with more features, but the usability is the key, and the iPod UI itself is pretty good, which annoys me, because I didn't want to like it.

They aren't this popular because of a fluke, it's actually a good player, and that pisses me off.

I've got an iPod Nano, I plug it into different computers and it works fine. Getting a Zune in a week though.

My Creative Nomad Zen Xtra (older model) still works great after like 3+ years. for a while I used it every day at work all day long too.

30gb for back then $190 was a great deal, and 30gb of music is plenty for me I think.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I used to think Ipods are junk, but they are really nice.  Replace the headphones and you are good to go.

back to the question...I have multiple PCs running itunes and uploading songs to my ipod no problems.

Its not the multiple PC's that are the issue.  Its the DRM that Itunes puts on the music.  When you download a song from Itunes, that song can only be played on the computer that it is downloaded to...

UNLESS you authorize another computer to play that song as well.  You can only have a song authorized on five different computers.

The issue with CAV getting his uncles songs on the IPOD is exactly that.  The songs were proabaly only authorized on that computer.  To use those songs on another machine, those songs would have to be copied to the new computer and then that computer would have to be authorized to play those songs by logging in as the other person who originally downloaded those songs.

Isn't DRM a b*TcH??
