The only "Mustang" that was ever painted black to my knowledge was the P-82.

All weather, night interceptor...

Ahhhh, the CAF's P-82 "Twin Mustang."   I saw it when it arrived in Harlingen immediately after they first acquired it.   Saw it fly then watched them restore it for another decade or so.   What a gorgeous airplane.   Then some lug nut decided to drop it in on the runway from 40 feet and all but destroyed it.

Big legal battle over it with the USAF right now.   Was a great airplane.   Would be a miracle to get it flying again.   Only takes money at this point.

What a bird.
