Full Sound acceleration in Directx

Can someone tell me why with all this technology that we can't use full acceleration? With machines running 3 gig and 4 gig memory, great sound cards it makes me curious.

Probably because the setting enables or disables a resource that Aces High cannot operate reliably with or needs. It isn't about the hardware, it's about DirectX. A lot of stuff happens when you click that slider, I bet.

All full accelerarion does is adjust the CPU priority so that sounds get more attention than the application does.  It is a misnomer and I wish MS would fix it.

For software based sound chips, such as every AC97 device on the market, it even steals more CPU away from the application as there is no hardware for sound playback anyway.

Skuzzy, I've run had the slider on full even since I started playing this game.. never had any problems with it.

Do you think I'd see an improvement in performance if I pushed it down a notch?

E6300/ASRock DualVSTA
2GB DDR2
GeForce 6200 256MB
160GB SATA2
512TXTs/1280X1024
LTB USB Surround sound headphones (use their own sound drivers)

30-40FPS Average (Maxed at 75 with little action, 20-25 in large furballs... detail sliders about 1/2).

I do get some weird sound abnormalities (crackling/distortion) when I zoom in on a building on fire (such as when in a FLAK), but .resetv fixes it everytime.

I just got a new system, kinda lower end dual Amd 4800, 7 series on-board video  video w/256m. running XP Sp2 and have the same problem with additional "artifacts". Very annoying. I think its associated with a particular sound but haven't pinned it down. .restev 3 cancels it for less than a second then it's back. Very high register and over modulated/distorted.

I changed the os compatibility per Skuzzy's note and dl'd the amd dual core drivers just to be safe. Am up to date on updates and am wondering if I just need to deselect a box or something more involved.
I also don't seem to get much of a frame rate at higher res. which I thought I would (usually below 30) I wonder if they're related.

Any Ideas?

Are you using the onboard sound on your motherboard?  If you are, I would maybe turn down the performance setting.  Crackling is usually your soundcard or audio chip not being able to keep up with the # of sounds generated.  Or look into buying a sound card,

Also, I'd seriously shop for a new video card.  You have a nice setup, but you card is your bottleneck.  Spend $75-$85 and buy something as little has a 7600, you'll never see below 60FPS.

Right now, its like your computer has the parts for a nice sports car, but you've swapped out the engine for something out of a 1989 Chevy Celebrity.

Yup... you're preaching to the choir... I have a 7900GS supposed to be delivered Monday... along with a 600Watt PS.

Also a brand new X-52 right here next to me now.
