Ships in The Film Viewer
« on: December 31, 2007, 09:54:03 PM »
In the film viewer ships appear to be in a different position than they were in the game. For example, I dive bombed a CV and hit it in the game (about 9 different things were listed as destroyed). However the film viewer shows the entire CV group a couple hundred meters away from where it’s supposed to be and the bomb or bombs that are supposed to hit it are shown to land harmlessly in the water without detonating. Though the list of objects destroyed still appears and the CV catches fire. Also, every recording I have of landing on a carrier shows the plane landing on an invisible platform next to or behind the carrier. Does anyone else have this problem with the film viewer?

Yes. I think it's because the film viewer only records the carrier's course and waypoints, not its literal position.

For example, when the carrier changes heading it just jumps to the new heading rather than turning as it does in game.

Really a shame, too. Second frame of Okinawa my squad XO saved the CV, turning it just in time for bombs to land a couple yards off the port bow that would have made for great screenshots. However in the film viewer they splashed down harmlessly well astern because rather than the wide, slow turn it made in the game it snapped to the new heading instead.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
