You heard it here first: the economy is heading for a drastic slowdown.  I browsed the new year sales and did NOT buy either a larger computer monitor or a digital camera with a 10x telephoto.

They were neat, but I didn't NEED them.  However, when I have to replace either item, I'll be back to my usual consumer boosterism.

Have you resisted any optional temptation yet this year?  Or are you an easy sale.

(I didn't buy a yacht or an airplane either, but those are so beyond reach they don't count.)

It was really really difficult for me not to buy a new PC.  However there is a 50/50 chance my company is going to be bought and go private in the next 3 months and things are too uncertain.

That said.  My car will be paid off in April so that $300/month burning a hole in my pocket might be spent at tigerdirect.com.  That is unless the Mrs. finds it first.

I would bet that Mrs Mickey not only has already found it, she has already made plans for it;  This information has not been passed on to you yet because you do not have the necessary clearance and the time is not right...

The only "consumer" products we bought were PSP's for the boys. Damn, those things are like a miniature computer/Ipod/Video Game/Movie Player/Radio all wrapped up in one nice little package.  Everything works as advertised too.

Other than that, I don't want to tell you how much we've spent on home improvements since Nov. 4th (Inground spa, upgraded kitchen, upgraded living room...)

I succumbed to temptation and built myself a new computer.

With 4 gigs of RAM, 1 terabyte raid array and Nvidia 8600GTS, HL2 Episode 2 looks gorgeous at 1680 x 1050 on my new 22" wide screen monitor.

Hey, I waited a long time for it.  I deserve it right?  Yeah, that's what I tell myself anyway.

what ever happened to the age when all a man needed to feel complete was a bag of coins, a good meal and his own sense of freedom to feel succesful?

As for the economy, I personally suspect that we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg,,, that we are in for a significant recession. I'm out of the market, besides some undeveloped land and gold.

If my family hadn't agreed to take it easy this Xmas and just do Ron Paul donations instead of gifts, that's exactly what I what I was thinking about getting my Dad.  He's been hinting at wanting a lever gun for years...

If you guys' have just now figured out that we're in a recession, and that things' are slow, You might be shocked to find out it's gonna get worse.

Oil's starting to sell for over $100, Home Repo's are at their highest since the great depression, inflation is steadily climbing (ahead of wages, I might add,) and the stock market's been steadily slipping backwards for the last 3 months....

it's that important to us.  We're a patriotic family, more than half of the men are veterans (all Navy!), Dad's an Annapolis grad, Granddad's buried in Arlington 3 graves over from Renee Gagnon (look him up), got an Uncle there as well.  We love this country, most importantly the ideals this country was founded on, and it's those ideals that we signed up to defend.  Not a particular political agenda, rather the ideals set forth in the DoI and the Constitution.  We took an oath to defend the Constitution, from enemies foreign AND domestic.  In a way, that's what we feel we're doing now.  Even if Paul loses we're sending a message.  It's worth it to us, it's that important.

I don't care much about feeling successful, I do like accomplishment.

I've quit smoking and will drop my Satelite TV in 10 days to save money to buy a cabin eventually. My Car will be paid off in June. There's 2 hundred bucks I can use. As far as computers etc. I built one a couple of months a go and that urge has been satisfied. I want a flat panel tv but I am holding off for the cabin.

This is what I am saving: Stop Smoking $120 / Mo
                                         Satelite TV      $ 45 / Mo
Car Paid off   $200 / Mo

                                          Total              $365/Mo

Anyway that's a start.
