Donkey, I see the concept you are aiming for here, but I don't know how well it would work in practice. But, you can give it a shot, it might/should look something like this:
0-10% = no input
11-30% = Q and then release Q
31-50% = Q and then release Q
51-70% = Q and then release Q
71-90% = Q and then release Q
There are 2 problems I see here. First is hitting the correct percentage, you may actually have your slider at 35% (second notch flaps) when you think you are at the range for first notch flaps.
Then comes the problem of retracting your flaps. I realize you want "the further I pull my slider down, the more flaps come down, and when I slide the slider up, the flaps retract" but I dont think thats possible. You would have to assign a Q/releaseQ and a W/release W value to each band. Which would in the end, do nothing.
You can set your slider to work as flaps, but differently than you intend/want. Try this:
0-15% = FLAPS UP (or down, depending on your prefrence, so either keypress q or w)
16-85% = nothing
86%-100% = FLAPS UP (or down, depending on your prefrence)
I would make the 86-110% (furthest forward, toward the D-button) as flaps down and 0-15% (furthest back) as flaps up. This lets you have a large deadzone where no input is given and therefore nothing happens. The slider doesnt have a center detent so sometimes it is a little hard to figure out how far you have to move the slider to STOP controller input. With a large deadzone, you only get controller input (in this case flaps up/down) at the very extremes of the slider movement.
So, for one notch of flaps, slide the slider all the way forward, then back to center-ish, no need to be real precice, just out of the 86-100& range. For the second notch slide the slider again all the way forward then back to center-ish, rinse and repeat till you achieve the desired flap deployment.
To retract flaps, slide the slider all the way back, then to center-ish. Again you dont have to be real precice, just get the slider out of the 0-15% range. This retracts one notch of flaps. Rinse and repeat till desired flap deployment is reached.
I use the throttle hat switch for flaps up/down, (it also has gear up/down and tailhook up/down as well), which may be another idea you might want to kick around. It lets me activate flaps while trimming elevator (thumb wheel, the one with the I-button) as well as using my LOOK UP modifier. I tried having flaps mapped to my slider but found that in the times when I needed to both keep my view on the target AND use flaps, I couldnt. I have the D-button set as LOOK UP.
I'd post my profile, but I think mine is atypical, I've got stuff all over the place. For example I'm trying now to use my slider for LOOK UP and LOOK DOOWN. (Three bands - 0-15% look down, center nothing, 85-100% look up). Currently my D-button is look up and my E-button (big button on top of thottle, the letter has worn away) is squad VOX. I want to use D as VOX and E to bring up clipboard, or possibly some other function.
However, if you really want it, say so and I'll be happy to post it.
