I'm sorry for this dumb post but I have searched my Vista system computer for sound files in my HTC and AHII folders and all I can find is a sound.res file.  There is no "sounds" subdirectory.  I made one and put downloaded files into it but it has made no change to my sounds while running the game.  I am showing hidden files but I don't know where sounds or skins are located on my computer.

Can someone cut and past an example of the file structure on their computer so I can see what I'm doing wrong?  I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Let me know which sound names you're missing... The simplest thing to do from your end is download one of the past sound packages, and unpack them into a separate directory to see what goes where.

Thanks for the help.  I have attached a screen shot of my file structure.  There was no sound file in my AHII files.  I created the file and added sounds to the one you see listed but it had no effect on the game.  As you can see, my file structure is entirely different than yours, and yet, the game works just fine on my computer.

Sorry I couldn't get the screen shot to paste in here.  I'm not the most adept user.

Which custom sounds do you want to add?  If there are many of them, list just one plane/vehicle you want to edit, and I'll show you were to put the files.

"Out of the box", the game doesn't have any files besides that one zipped sounds.res file.  All the default sounds are in there.

I have dowloaded Fruda's sounds.  I'm most interested in Spitfire and any sounds for zero's out there.  Thanks.

There are no sound files in the default directory, unless you put some in there.

The game will use whatever is in there...if you don't like them just delete it or try another.

Each model's sounds goes in a folder named after the model, namely:
SEAFIRE, SPIT1, SPIT5, SPIT9, SPIT14, SPIT16,
and
A6M2, A6M5B.

The .wav files must be in the following format: mono, 22KHz, 8bit.  (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

ENG.wav is the engine
ENGSTART is the engine start sound
ENGOFF, the engine off sound
FLAPS, the flaps
GEAR, the gear
M2, the external sound of the model's machineguns/cannons
20MM_1, 20MM_2, etc are the internal 20mm sounds.  You should have as many of these as there are guns of this type.
30CAL_1, 30CAL_2, etc are the internal 30cal sounds, these work the same as 20mm - you can have as many as there are on the plane
STALL is the sound of the stall
WIND is the sound of air past +-300mph

I think these too can replace the default sounds if placed in a model's folder:
BUFFET
STRESS
etc..  The rest of them would be those you can see in the screenshot I posted in the previous post.
