From the big Consumer Electronics show taking place in Las Vegas:

The biggest model Plasma TV that Panasonic currently makes is only 65 inches in size. Would you want something this big in your living room??

Plasma is a compromised technology I can't see anyone wanting a tv like that. It's probably aimed towards advertising or info use.

The OLED's are still very small in size and the developers are struggling with technical difficulties, including high manufacturing costs.

I got a 50" last week. Just got the HD stuff for it today. Im lovin it. Sure beats the 19" we were using

Anybody have experience with using a video projector?

Seems like you could fill up a wall with an image, or have a retractable screen and the projector on a piece of furniture that could hide all the video stuff when you aren't watching.

I wonder how long before they are able to make it project the image from the screen in 3D like George Jetson's big screen?

yup a good friend of mine has a projector linked up to his PC, SKY tv and a games console. he has about 12ft between projector and a blank white wall, the image is at least 100in wide and incredible quality. Amazing for gaming and good for tv, he can also pack the projector up in 3 minutes and move house.

I have a Panasonic PT-AE700 projector that can display a 1280x720 image 100-120" in diameter easily. The downside with projectors is that you need a darkened room so they're not the most convenient in daily use. Data use is ok even in daylight but games/movies you need a dark room. The Optoma DLP projectors include an option for shutter glasses so you get full 3D image projection. http://www.edimensional.com one example.

The new JVC D-Ila projectors are awesome. My friend has one and the image quality is a leap forward with full hd resolution naturally. 30 000:1 real contrast. Downside is price, 8-9000usd.

The large plasma in question may seem attractive but it consumes a huge amount of electricity, is prone to typical plasma screen problems and generates a lot of heat. Something that you wouldn't want especially during summertime.

I've considered a projector, but I'm still not convinced on the quality. It all boils down to your screen and I live in the middle of a hay field. Lots of dust. I have a 65" RCA rear projection now and it works great, but it takes up a large amount of space. Luckily, my living room is 36' deep.

Announced in Japan a few days ago:

"A TV capable of showing 3-D images that can be seen without special glasses sounds like something from a science fiction novel, but it could be in your home by 2025.

The Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry plans to develop in cooperation with private companies a TV that can display clear and realistic 3-D images and start broadcasts to households in less than 20 years, according to ministry sources.

The ministry hopes to develop the technology--in which lasers create a full-color, high-definition 3-D image visible without special glasses or other devices--and put it into practical use for companies by 2020."
