Ladies and Gents(HTC staff)

Briefly tell us customers what you guys get when we "report" a player on chat. What happens when we customers/players report a foul mouth player
on vox ....

I was a computer programer years back...
Can you explain to us what takes place ?

When the ".report voice" command is activated, do you guys get a print out giving you more details of the incident(print screen....) ?

Is there a "police employee" sitting in front of a monitor and looking at a full screen of GAMEID's being foul ?

Do you guys have software/programs that will capture repeating offenders ? Once identified by these programs a report will be printed out for you(s) to look at manually??

Then you take action directly with that player ?

How is it done ?

Nothing happens unless there are 10 of you. If there are 10 of you, the offending player loses comm privs for a predetermined amount of time. There is no case by case review unless someone contacts HTC directly, and even then action is not guaranteed.

That's community policing in a nutshell.

What happens when you "report" someone ?

I used to write software programs for users like HTC and other companies.
Everytime we hit keys on our keyboards or when we use "dot" commands, data is processed and the game reacts accordingly.
As a retired computer programer, when the ".report" command is activated, what is the next step ?
What happens to the data ? The "gameID" gotta be dumped in a file or a written document....
Gotta be filled somewhere !!!
Does HTC get a weekly/daily/monthly report and then when the culprit's name pops up too many times, they react ?

Anyone knows ? HTC ?

My guess is that it's thier bussiness and they won't tell ya. But I may be wrong, they might. Time will tell.

Well I am not HTC But I think it goes something like this.....

Player x: .Report xxxx is not playing fair......
Skuzzy: "Alert" a .Report has come in again...... (Skuzzy reads .report and mumbles something about HiTech being a PUTZ and that the Kids are crying again)...
Skuzzy: Sends e-mail to player xxxx Start playing fair or you will be Spanked (Skuzzy mumbles something about HiTech being a Dweeb)
Player x: Post on BBS "What happens when we use the .Report command"
Skuzzy: ............ (Hitech You are the PUTZ!)

last i knew .reports are stored in a file and not looked at till someone calls in about a complaint of abuse or .report not working. it saves said person that is being reported text that shows on the screen. so if you report someone make sure your text buffer is fully opened.

I doubt they'll ever tell you how it works.. because, if they did, an ungodly number of people who just want to be onery will go to great lengths to incorporate workarounds and exploitations to get around it.

Case in point: All the variations of vulgarity to bypass filters

Case in point: All the spams you receive with normally filtered words altered with numbers to reqpresent letters to still get 'point' accross.. completely ignoring the fact that if you have the filters in place, you don't WANT that stuff..

Every workaround requires more effort by the host to put in more filters to stop them.

Too bad we don't have a cyber death penalty.

Now to get back to de-spamming my own website message boards..
