Originally posted by scottydawg I LOVE IT!Except a couple of things. You misspelled 'introduce' (intoduce), 'speech' (speach), mistyped 'thought' as 'though' and missed an apostrophe ("question mark's use").Otherwise, BRA-freakin-VO.
Originally posted by Treize69 Ok, I'm sorry- but splitatom, I have to intoduce you to a couple friends of mine.Say hello to , and . These are the comma and period. The comma (,) is quite useful for indicating a sentence break (like a pause in speach) or slight change of topic within the same sentence. The period (.), helpful little fella that he is, indicates the end of a sentence, which itself indicates the end of a though or statement.Used together, these helpful little critters help to prevent what we like to call "run-on sentences", which make you look like an uneducated moron and cause others to completely ignore and/or disregard what you are trying to say. You may also want to research an interesting phenomenon we refer to as "capitalization", in which certain words, usually at the start of a sentence (which admittedly is a concept you have yet to grasp), but also proper names (usually people and places, but also some things) have the first letter of their name capitalized. To use this function, you simply hold down the SHIFT (see, I did it for that whole word as an example!) key while pressing the letter you would like to capitalize. The shift key also works for those little floating things above the numbers and some of the punctiation keys on the keyboard. I am referring specifically to ! (which is above the 1) and ? (which is above the /). These are the exclamation mark (!) and the question mark (?). They are used to indicate surprise (or excitement) in the case of the exclamation mark, and a question (get it?) in the case of a question mark. While the question marks use is self explanatory, the exclamation point is often abused and misused (especially by gamers), so I will leave the discovery of its myriad applications up to you. Its a fun and exciting journey, so be sure to pack a lunch!
