Air Warrior lost soul
« on: January 09, 2008, 09:06:51 PM »
Ok, Ok...I'm beginning to feel like that Japanese soldier isolated on a remote island who didn't know the war was over.
My wife kicked me off of WII flight sims 8 years ago. I am trying to get back into it under her nose. What happened to AW? And where did all my flight comrads go? Warbirds or Aces High? I signed up into Warbirds two days ago and chatted on the radio. I only got one response from, WildBil, someone who had played AW before.
My CH sticks and throttle and peddles are out of date, need usb connectors now. Looking for definitive answers if a should get back into this. I enjoyed full realism on AW, does Aces high have this? And more to the point, where did most of the full realism players from AW go? and why? Aces High vs Warbirds.

Thank you,

Tom (Balmy)

I came from AW after the 99 convention when +Moss turned me on to AH beta and have been here ever since. Many of the AW guys started to trickle over and most of the rest came when AW finally folded. I know that many WB folks made the migration as well as long with a suprising number from fighter ace (a game I never played)...

Balmy, you'll find most all the old sticks from AW here in AH.

You may find this thread interesting...  http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=210117

There are others too.  I remember some time ago even Moggy popped in a couple of times :)

The short story...

Many of the old Air Warrior crew moved over to Aces High back in 2002 when the plug was pulled on AW.

Yes, AH is full realism.

Warbirds? So far as I can tell it's an online ghost town. A few primary squads from WB moved over to AH not too long ago. WildBill is the CEO of IEN. Too funny that he's the only one who gave you a response...maybe he's the only one left there.

FYI, Hitech & Pyro, the primary developers behind Aces High, were the ones who developed Warbirds.

By and large, Aces High is the most recognized and most viable WW2 air combat flight sim on the planet right now.

Welcome aboard!

Were you Az Bz or Cz??   ....AH is a lot like AW... i was Bz (cpid ABDC/still is) from old aol/gamestorm days(AW1). I flew w/Avengers (Ramm/CO)... welcome back...you'll need new gear as you've already figured out. The macro option ain't here and it'll take a few to figure out but it's like driving a stick shift...once you know how to do it, ya don't forget.

Countries... Rooks (Bz)  Knights (Az) Bish (Cz) ....my personal opinion.

Cheers,

ABDC (Rook)

welcome Balmy..............if you have a gameport/midi port on your Computer or can put in a dedicated soundcard with one on it. you can use your old gameport/analog HOTAS setup...

I am still using my CH Products Gameport HOTAS ( Fighter Stick, Pro Throttle & Pedals ).........and have no problems at all....

and as far as macros go.........I have no problem using macros if I use the speedkeys program........:D

And yeah, there are TON'S o' AW people flying here.  Steep learning curve, but well worth it.

Greetings,

When I came back a couple of years ago, used an analog F22 with throttle.  Just map the buttons as keyboard keys in the C2 module or equal.  Works great.  No need to buy new stuff until you break it.

Regards,
