I was recently reading a book called "Flyboys" which is about some WWII TBM pilots who went MIA in WWII after an attack on chichi jima (Hope I spelt that right) when it popped up on the "Doolittle raid" where they had b25's up from a carrier

Why not allow people willing to up b25's from a carrier to do so, full flaps and full throttle should allow the b25 to get up :]

No worries mate, I did search it under

"Doolittle raid"
"Bomber Carrier"
"Carrier" (too many results...)
"b25 carrier" (b25 under 4 letter minimum, along with b-25)

The B-25s that were used for the Doolittle raid were modified to allow them to take off of a carrier.

Removal of the lower gun turret
Installation of de-icers and anti-icers
Steel blast plates mounted on the fuselage around the upper turret
Removal of the liaison radio set
Installation of three additional fuel tanks and support mounts in the bomb bay, crawl way and lower turret area to increase fuel capacity from 646 to 1,141 U.S. gallons (2,445 to 4,319 litres)
Mock gun barrels installed in the tail cone, and
Replacement of their Norden bombsight with a makeshift aiming sight.


This was a one time only deal and shouldn't be used to put a plane in a particular roll (in this case a CV capable medium bomber) that it wasn't used in with the exception of an once in a life time mission.

Might be wrong but from what I've read and done a touch of research on it was a b25B using just enough fuel to get them to chinese airspace...

But if it is true, wouldn't the steel blast plates, the 3 additional fuel tanks, support mounts for the bombs and the anti icers and deicers  make up for the lost weight of the guns?

You can take any B-25 off a carrier that you land there first.
