Call me finical, but I'm not very inclined to give help & tips in this forum to players tossing around childish insults in their questions. But that's just me and others may disagree.
It's just not the way I want to see this community developing.

EDIT: I see The original message was edited to some extend... Much appreciated :)

Now on topic: If you have to climb to their altitude to catch them and they decide not to engage you, you are usually out of luck.
Show 'em your tail, lure them back down. Or disengage, get out of icon range and climb climb climb. Chances are good they come back looking for more cheap picks (I usually do :D).

Best planes to hunt down P-51's are Tempest, La-7 (below 10k) and to some extend 109K-4, Spit XIV and 190D.

Wont let me delete the post, I was just angry because I had 5 fights in a row at different locations against different countries where all it was was p51s vulching then diving to the deck and running to their airfield once someone was at their alt.

I guess the best way to counter this is fly a 262.

If you can act a bit dumb, and trick them into turning hard, the P51 will accelerate away poorly. Most other aircraft, while ultimately slower, will catch the P51 before it can make its top speed. A slow pony is a dead pony.

Tempest or LA7 on deck.   A hog with altitude and speed can dive and run down most things.

The 262 is obviously the fastest but you can't turn that like you can the above 2 planes.

If your up High Spit 14 is a beauty that many forget about.

The German stuff is quick 190D and 109K4 however again be careful with these as they don't turn all that great.

Unfortunately there are many weak pilots who do not know how to be aggresive in the pony.   Look up SkatSr if you can, as he is one of the better 51 pilots I have come up against.

While this may be frustrating to deal with on your side of the equation. Try flying the pony exclusively for a month or 2. I'll bet a month of AH that you'd be doing pretty much the same exact thing that ticks you off now.

Its the SMART way to fly a pony and live.  The other smart thing a lot of pony drivers do is fly with a wingman or 3. As bad as a single running pony is.
4 high ponys that boom & zoom you, work you with wingman tactics is even worse. So count your blessings.  :)

My guess is that they fly that way because they're looking to shoot some planes down- and then get away to land them, else or come back and kill a few more.

They probably find it more entertaining to shoot planes down than to be shot down themselves.

They probably would like to avoid being shot down by you, or one (or ten) of your teammates.

They may feel they don't owe you a kill simply because you can turn better than them.  They may not see this (AH) as an elaborate game of rock-paper-scissors.  They may decide to deny the rocks ability to smash the scissors.

They probably think a fast plane will allow them to get away from a plane they can't out-turn (either because of skill or plane type).  They probably also think a fast plane will allow them to catch folks who might choose to run away themselves.

They might simply think the plane they're flying is neat.  They might prefer it over some of the other plane choices.

Can we allow this?

The simple answer is dont...

Let them catch you:aok

Recognizing the difference in getting cherried, picked etc the simple truth is that in a 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 "catching" is the easy part of the equation. The only way you'll kill a good pilot one on one is by commiting to some kind of a fight. As a general rule B&Z attacks are easy to avoid and often create shot windows for the defender. A true E attack is difficult to defend but creates a window of expoitability and the defender actually has the edge in a superior E plane suddenly going angles IMO.

As far as I'm concerned you let the runners run and look for the guy who wants to fight. Plenty of other runners willing to chase em...

This scenario really used to aggravate me.  I find a way to get co-Alt with a pony or Tempy and then I'm usually treated with a nice view of their tail as they are turning into a small dot doing mach 2.  Not anymore.

May I humbly present my new outlook on this?  Forcing a bandit to run is the same as a kill (to me).  Killing them or making them run has become one of the same objective in my new perspective.  The objective was to neutralize the threat from above.  If he runs, I did it!

Once this is done, I have the altitude advantage and now not only do I have more options, but my country mates do too.

This philosophy has really brought a new face to the game for me.  When I get high over enemy territory and I'm lucky enough to force down the co-alt bandits, I don't chase them down and blow my advantage (unless I know I can get a quick kill).  Instead, I try to emulate some of the really good and smart sticks in the game and try to pick off people coming up to meet me.  Its a lot of fun and its tactically sound.  I can sometimes keep 2 or 3 bandits busy doing this while my buddies sneak in to accomplish whatever objective is at hand.

I chase them all the way to the field and blow them away when they turn around or try to land. I'm persistant, don't run from me unless you wanna die while you're landing. Yea I'll suicide through the flak, I don't care.

Another thing is starting to bug me now and it's the mindless hordes that seem to be the new trend. You don't see any small engagements now, it's always lopsided 20v5 30v10 etc etc. This is probably why I'm seeing all the p51s and 109ds, it's the only way to fight the hordes if you don't have alt.

Don't forget the Yak 9U.   I've chased down many 51's and 190's with it lately.  It's actually my first choice since it will also turn when you're done chasing.

personaly i dont chase ponys unless i come in above them in a similar speed plane. but if im flying a nik at 10k which is about my fave now.
i let them come to me if its just one i try to build e against him and reverse to get a shot.

i fly the pony a good bit and ill admit i do run some but if im alone at 15k and theres 20 cons below me no freindlys then its the right thing to do.
try to pick em climb extend. cause i know if i get down there turnin and burnin im diead.

whats really cool is when i meet someone in like a 109 or 190 co alt and they want to fight and not run. those are where i like to be.
even when i fly p47 im looking for a fight over 15k.
