« on: January 15, 2008, 11:27:11 PM »
Two of the ugliest super cars battle it out
997 Turbo vs R35 GT-R @ Tsukuba circuit

To some of you, you'll be in for surprise.
While others might say "I told you so that_______will pwn!":)

Time Attack

Part 1  R35 GT-R
Part 2  997 Turbo (skip to 1:45)

The real match

Part 3  The GT-R was given 100 meter handicap at start.

The two drivers did not appear to have the same skills...  The 997 was literally all over the track and didn't seem to be driving very efficiently.

That said, the GT-R does in fact appear to be a very fast car.  Just watch how they're driving styles differ though, and it seems like the 997 driver was hanging out the tail unnecessarily and that really scrubs off speed.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

The porsche driver sucks...if he had any rocks he would have "bumped" the GT-R on that one turn.   I think with equal skilled drivers that race would have been alot closer.   I would be interested what tires where used on each car, and stuff like tire pressures and suspension setup

I think i've seen that track before too, in GT3, its not an easy track, at least in the game..

I wonder if the GT-R being a little heavier helps it in the turns, like weight distribution...

That R35 plowing-in in corner entry- priceless (see part 3 00:40 to 00:50), and that corner exit is for the kill.

Both drivers are pros, and that Porsche driver was the 2007 winner of the Super GT's  GT-500 series.

If you watched the 997 turbo time attack (see part 2), that porsche driver (Daisuke Ito) broke Keiichi Tsuchiya 's 997 Turbo record on that same track (Daisuke's 1:04:118 vs Keiichi's 1:04:730)

Edit: As for that Porsche hanging out that tail unnecessarily...  I think the Porsche driver was trying really hard not to spin out.

Isn't gobs of oversteer a characteristic of any 911-based Porsche?

Or any car where the engine is slung out behind the rear axle.

The amazing thing about Porsche is the way they have allowed the 911 to defy physics as well as they have. There's no way they'd choose that layout on a new model though.

"sido by sido!" lmao :rofl

i'm not sure about the driving either, the fast right hander in the GTR looks bad, or does the GTR understeer at speed? and ive seen smoother, faster 911 drives. until we see Dirk Schoysman vs Walter Rorhl at the ring we may never know ;)

and I reckon a cayman with lsd and GT3 engine would whip both of em :D

no, it's the same as R35 GT-Rs when used with tiptronic trans.  Also note that GT-R  weighss almost 4000 lbs.

Edmunds Inside Line got it under 3.3 with the Launch Control system.    Test driver felt they can achieve 3.0 if they were testing this car on a proper airstrip.

GT-R is suppose to be a bargain ($69,850) compare to its competetion with plenty of aftermarket support (AMUSE, HKS, Veilslide, etc and Mine's will set its first HQ in the US this year), but expect huge markups in the first year:rolleyes:

Here's another battle, but more cars joined the party...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR4NKuVK8zI&feature=related
as usual... GT-R is placed far back.:noid

Btw... for those who are questioning the quality of the drivers in this video, the drivers showed here are PROs and they compete in the Super GT GT-500 class.
